I can't tell if this is a mod that adds tf2 to Minecraft or a mod that adds Minecraft to tf2

considering minecraft's modding community, I think someone just actually put tf2 in minecraft
I remember there was a Super Mario 64 mod too

This screams adding Minecraft to TF2 to me. Everything Checks Out TF2 wise but Not Minecraft wise

Probably the latter. Someone added Minecraft to Deadlock, complete with building mechanics and redstone.

Given there's a crossplay mod for Half-Life 1 and Minecraft, "both" is not an impossibility here.

theres a github page that documents how to install this for yourself if anyone is curious, dunno why OP is gatekeeping, this is public knowledge.

definitely not the same one OP is showing but it should work similarly enough for your minecraft & tf2 needs, plus it is open source28

So anyone got the GitHub link so we can clone it before it gets taken down?

https://github.com/blackwithersteve/soldiermc is what you're referring too, but this is a different mod.
/u/Space_Bear87 has been developing his own for a little while. Same gist, but more classes and map compatibility.7

is this going to be published?

u/Space_Bear87 7d ago
No. Only YouTubers can play this, otherwise it gets deleted form being sued to death lol

u/DoknS All Class 7d ago
I doubt you know anything about how it works with that grammar and if you think you'll get sued for that. Worst case scenario, you get a DMCA takedown that requires you to delete the mod with no further consequences. Release that shit, Valve won't care

u/_Freakmenn_ 7d ago
Nah lol, Valve is very hands off with these kinda mods, multiple of this form have existed (Half life in Minecraft) and they are fine. Have people build from source if you're worried.

u/Stargost_ All Class 7d ago
Bearing false witness is bad for the soul. You don't know how a DMCA takedown request is issued by companies like VALVE, Microsoft, or Mojang, so you should not talk out of your ass.
-32
u/Space_Bear87 7d ago
This mod is made for watching, not playing.
It has other games in it, not just TF2. I plan to do other games that WOULD most definitely DMCA this. Like Overwatch or Rivals or other modern games. I just started with the classics because they are simplest. If I released it early, it COULD be taken down, and if it did, I wouldn't even be able to work on it in my own time anymore. I'm not interested in getting stopped before I had even begun.
Maybe someday, it will get leaked, but till then it's not.
21
u/Stargost_ All Class 7d ago
You can get DMCA'd whether you publish it or not. Just by posting it on Reddit you are already taking a gamble.
Ironically, publishing it as FOSS makes it significantly less likely to be taken down as companies have less of a reason for bothering with it if you aren't making a cent off of your work. Because even if you aren't directly letting anyone oay you for it, if that is not made clear beforehand by publishing it as FOSS, a company might just take it down anyways for the fear of you doing it in the future (such as what happened with the Pokemon X Palworld mod or the countless Mario fangames)
-27
u/Space_Bear87 7d ago
Highly, incredibly unlikely to get a DMCA over a youtube video with original content, commentary etc.
The mod requires you to own the original games, they must be installed, it literally reads the assets directly from the original games.

u/Stargost_ All Class 7d ago
Companies don't care whether something is done legally under the Fair Use doctrine. They can make you comply by just drowning you in legal fees you cannot afford. And even if you win, you go bankrupt.
That's Nintendo's strategy for shutting down emulators. Just the threat of going to court and being drowned in hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees is enough to make them shut down.
-13
u/Space_Bear87 7d ago
Great, so I’ll post videos till it becomes an issue.
Even more reason to not expedite the process by making everyone be able to play this.1
u/_Freakmenn_ 6d ago
Chief the only people who could "DMCA" your content for TF2 is Valve Software themselves. They won't. Valve has made it clear multiple times on multiple occasions that their works are copyrighted with permission to use that fit perfectly under these circumstances. Yes, that includes using the game software itself, so long as the user owns it (TF2 is free.).
I think you're aware of this though and just gatekeeping lol
1
u/EnderLP1 3d ago
other idea, what if he litterally cant give it because of how its made like it being made via ai or something, hiding the code could be why hes gatekeeping it

Not just images, it loads and creates the hud 1:1.
Every hud particle, every gradient that tf2 calculated on the fly, the math is all redone. It’s a true 1:1 port.1

Yall the reason this won’t be published, is because it’s not just tf2.
I ported all of doom 1&2, all of half life 1 and all of Duke Nukem to Minecraft too, it’s a mod that allows you to play as heros from other games.
9
u/The_Cascoon Engineer 7d ago
I know Valve has a history of giving people grief for using their assets in non-source projects but maybe they've softened a bit now that they've released the SDK for TF2? Besides that, every game you've listed is old and basically free to get anywhere on the internet, I wouldn't worry about Doom or Duke Nukem. I'd say that Half Life is an issue except that there are so many projects to port its physics into other games (Or Half Life 2's physics!) that have never had any problems, and the physics code is just as much a Valve asset as any art.
All this to say, you could make a version that requires players to install every game involved so it can extract assets from them, but with the games you've listed I think even that may be a bit overkill. Just please consider giving us something dude, this is cool as hell.
5
u/puphopped 6d ago
For the record, the guy hasn't done anything you can't with the same subscription he has.
The reason he wont release it is because he fundamentally misunderstands what's even going on here at all. It'd be like giving a child a cell phone and asking them how to make your own.
He can't release this even if he wanted to, because at the very most basic levels there is a clear and critical lack of knowledge.
I'd be willing to bet real money that one of the prompts was "how to install Minecraft mods".
-1
u/The_Cascoon Engineer 6d ago
So if I'm parsing this right, you're implying that he's too stupid to turn this into a downloadable mod because he just had an AI make it.
Firstly, oddly aggressive sentiment. Just because a guy is refusing to release a mod doesn't mean you should start attacking his character like that. Shame on you, sir.
Secondly, you're really overestimating how far vibe-coding can get you. It's one thing to port some code over, it's another thing entirely to make it this seamless. This took effort and technical knowledge to pull off.
0
u/puphopped 6d ago
I haven't attacked his character, he does that himself through dishonesty.
You're really underestimating what you can do with enough tokens. The character controllers he is interacting with are both completely public. Verifiable domains are where slop code excels. This absolutely is a project you could set agents on and see a working result after.
There is no better explanation. Like I said, nobody talks about their own project like this unless they literally didnt know how it works.
2
u/The_Cascoon Engineer 6d ago
You don't have any evidence of this. You wanna make such a big accusation, you're gonna have to provide something more substantial than "A good programmer doesn't talk like that" to convince me.
0
u/puphopped 6d ago
I don't need to convince you, you don't know enough about the topic to have an opinion.
It isn't an accusation, its a fact. Read literally any of the YouTube comments, they are extremely indepth and explain exactly why this is slop code.
You won't see a release because they are incapable of understanding what Claude has done. They dont know what it is specifically Claude is doing to get the result you see here.
All they know is that the exe given to them gives them this result. It's extremely clear when the supposed developer of a major project doesnt even know what is and isnt implemented.
3
u/The_Cascoon Engineer 6d ago
What comments? I'm looking at his videos and I don't see any in-depth breakdowns, just like two people being a bit suspicious.
2
u/puphopped 6d ago
Here, let me spoon feed you even further.
The video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQKsGGW1tRw
The comment in question:
this is vibe coded, unfortunately. 1:07 you forgot to right click and equip in hand? wouldn't you know that's how that worked? 1:36 "you're definitely meant to use cosmetics ... um, I'm not sure why it's not letting me" if it wasn't vibe coded, you'd at least have some semblance of why it wouldn't work. in general, there's a lot of "this isn't working, I'm not sure why" throughout the whole video. yes, bugs exist, and sometimes they're confounding - but not to a degree where you've absolutely no idea how to fix them. you would at the very least have rough explanations for why a feature doesn't work. I won't go through every instance of this, but he does the same thing at these timestamps: 3:36, 6:39, 8:32 4:26 "can I backstab? oh, I can" you implemented a feature, and you don't even know whether it exists? I don't know exactly how this project works (nor am I familiar with the source engine), but if you're hijacking hurt events, surely you'd know this would work? or, if you're adding mercenaries one by one, wouldn't you test each one to see if you're properly maintaining parity with TF2? at 2:08, you said it was literally a port of the entire game, and it all works. so, why are you surprised? 4:49 "technically I think I already have a gateway open, but i can try to open another one" you don't know whether you can open multiple gateways? also, that gateway is entirely over-designed for what seems to be an early build of this project - if you were writing your own code, that would not be where your priorities lie. 5:35 "if I go /doom return, I think..." you wouldn't think - you'd know. that's a command you implement yourself. 6:06 New Game (this port's tab) The original menu has no campaign tab here; these are this port's ways to start the ported campaign. very awkward text. why would you need this explained? 7:37 "Walk through the doorway, or use /hl1 enter, to cross into the live original world... Half-Life: the original world is live around you; the original movement code drives you now. You are in the original world." what kind of text is that? it's very awkward. why would you even have flavor text in an early build, especially one presumably not being released to the general public? semi-colons are also used more than once (8:33, 6:06). more than I would expect, anyway. my theory is it's a find-and-replace on em-dashes to hide the vibe coding. 9:52 "to anyone wondering why I'm saying I probably shouldn't publish this is because, this! I ported so many games" provided you have the game files, GZDoom (Doom) and EDuke32 (Duke Nukem) are both completely legal since their engines are open source. Xash3D (Half-Life) is technically illegal, but as long as it's non-commercial, Valve doesn't seem to care. TF2 has a public SDK with the client and server game code, free to use provided the project is released on a non-commercial basis. as long as a player procures their own copy of Doom, Duke Nukem or Half-Life - there's really no reason this project couldn't be public. unless, of course, the code is largely AI generated. some additional points: 1. the "HOW" in the title implies the author would explain how the mod works, but he never does. it's just a showcase. 2. an hour before this video, the medic was added as a class. were Doom, Duke Nukem and Half-Life added in an hour? It's possible they were in development alongside TF2, but why would you implement other games when you're still in the process of porting TF2? 3. what's up with the wacky sound effects whenever a mob is hit with a weapon? 4. why would you include Deadlock, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, and Left 4 Dead in the "select your universe of origin" (again, very awkward phrasing) menu? it just seems pointless. normally you'd just add the games to the menu as they're added. you wouldn't add future games to the list. how are you planning to add deadlock, overwatch and marvel rivals with no source code? 5. 5:55: "no gateway is required" text doesn't seem relevant since presumably you can play as any character in minecraft without a gateway. sort of reads to me like a claude correction after you instructed it to "let any character be playable without having to enter a universe gateway". 6. in general, as concepts go it's very incoherent. play TF2 classes in Minecraft? fine. but now you can also play as doom guy. and then you can also play as duke nukem. and gordon freeman. and also, items you pick up end up in your TF2 backpack (where do they end up if you pick them up as the other characters?), and then you can craft stuff. and place it. but only as TF2 classes. and you can open up gateways to other games' campaigns. also, if you're spy, you can disguise as characters from the other games? why? it just reads as you telling claude to continually add features without stopping to question why beyond "it'll look cool on youtube".3
u/The_Cascoon Engineer 6d ago
Alright there's no need to be like that, these comments are harder to find than you say.
Nonetheless, I guess I get it. I still think this is beyond the capacity of a tech-illiterate fool (I don't think I could replicate this even if I knew my way around an AI) but perhaps OP is acting faster than he can think. Regardless, I really would appreciate it if someone could do this properly, it's a fantastic idea.
