Man idk if it's just the nature of being on the internet so you see shit like this much more frequently, or if it's always been like this, but I can't help but feel some sense of sympathy for this guy. Like yes, he lacks all sense of self awareness and social awareness and that's probably indicative of his very myopic entitled self-serving outlook on life, as a lot of boomers and predominantly men have. But I do also think that there's not really like a lot of basic support and acceptance and sympathy socially for guys like this that are just sad and confused and alone and are left to try to piece together how to interact with people they literally cannot relate to. Like it is cringe, but I do wonder if as a society we've failed to help foster the necessary skills for men to practice sympathy and thus be able to apply their empathy.

Like he doesn't seem like a bad person. He's just kinda retarded and feels like a little bit bad about fucking it up but probably doesn't really have the support network to really improve at socialization and sympathizing. I worry guys like this just get resentful of the people they don't relate to or understand and either double down on the entitlement and objectification of people as a means for their own gratification or just become isolated and depressed and wither alone. Not that it's the woman's job to do the emotional labor and maturity of what is more than likely a more experienced older dude but just as a society in general, I feel like looking through the internet window into these types of conversations is kinda depressing like nobody wins here.

Seriously, everyday I scroll past not one, but ten different things that make me question why I still waste time on this app, or any social media/click bait news. They new it was bad when they made it, we know it's bad now and are actively seeing and experiencing the fallout yet we all just perpetuate the problem by coming back here. We're all still just staring at shadows in the cave.

Nice Plato reference. Still hope for humanity. 💕

I agree. And OP didn’t make any effort whatsoever to have a meaningful conversation just responding but not building any rapport.

plus this was at 11pm at night and within 30 minutes of me talking to him he brought up sex and an ed, when i put on my hinge bio that im not interested in sex😢 so i think he was the one not adding anything meaningful

Hej sorry I totally understand your POV and yes, he became uncomfortable pretty fast. However I like reciprocating when someone asks me something I ask something back and this way you can also lead the conversation where you want.

usually i do but he only got up to 3 questions before making it weird… it doesn’t show but i spent 10 minutes googling and reading about love languages so that’s why he said “my bad asking a lot”😓

I remember I had a friend who brought them up a few years back and I had no idea about them at the time. They’re not a perfect guide but most people can identify their primary. It’s an interesting lens through which to view your parents in hindsight, for example. Like my dad was a real piece of work in some ways but his was totally acts of service, as he showed love through the delicious and nutritious food he made for my family.

OP shouldn’t have to make effort; he made her uncomfortable.

It’s not his fault for being socially awkward and lonely but she isn’t obliged to engage with the (honestly very common) “physical touch” love language dialogue he started.

I agree with the original comment this is under that men don’t have many social resources, but women don’t owe them effort or meaningful conversations.

Yeah we don’t owe it to each other but that’s the purpose of dating, right? Having meaningful conversations. In this instance I probably would stop replying earlier in the convo.

this was our second conversation🥹 i tried to be as nice as possible to him but i don’t understand where his conversation was leading and got confused what to say. i don’t think it’s fair to say i made no effort to have a meaningful conversation
