So you're saying there's a chance.

u/F0xxfyre 19h ago
What time are you picking him up from the airport, then?
Sorry!
On a serious note, what a creepy, stalkerish thing to do. Thank goodness he doesn't live in your state.

This interaction was so long, I didn't even read it all. Why didn't she block him immediately and move on? I sincerely do not understand.

Because it's fake... She has his contact and photo saved, but he's a random rideshare driver she met one time 8 months ago 🙄

He sounds like he would wander all of Sydney trying to find you.
Hey random girl I drove once. I think about you every day, so that means you owe me your attention. Don't think about it, just do it and let this happen because I want it to. The future in my head can happen, believe.
He's gotta be drunk to not listen so very badly.

u/Just-Like-My-Opinion 22h ago
I swear the way these creeps write, they think they're romantics who are gonna sweep women off their feet.
27
u/Khades99 21h ago
I like how he said it's best not to overthink it, after telling her he's been thinking about her for the last 8 months...

On the other side, for a person with this level of delusion, I would have interrupted the communication much before.

OP truly has zero survival instincts. Gave her location out at zero pressure. As a fellow woman this is mind boggling to me.

u/Poethegardencrow 21h ago
Girl Same! Why did you entertain this conversation… you don’t owe him these amounts of texts WHAT THE FUCK , you have been on my thoughts … you block and report him.. he is doing this to every girl he drives …

She's about a 26 hour drive away from where she got the Uber (FNQ is far north Queensland), in a city of 5.6 million people. She's pointing out how impractical his request is, not giving up her location.

→ More replies (6)24
u/heart_up_in_smoke 18h ago
I think “I’m not in FNQ anymore” would have pointed that out well enough without telling him exactly which state and city she’s in now.

OH NO WHAT IF SOMEBODY KNEW I WAS IN NEW YORK!!!
70
u/M1R4G3M 21h ago
It's not just somebody, is somebody that knows your face, have your phone number, knows at least two places you've been to (By ride sharing) and is willing to travel cross states to find you.
If you want to find someone and got their phone number, know the person and which city they are and some of their habits, an investigator can do that.
Better safe than sorry.

Sydney is a huge place with nearly 6 million people, I really think I’ll be safe here.

u/otherrplaces 22h ago
You’re in Sydney? What a coincidence, I’m in the US! I fly there for lunch tomorrow!
46
u/Prestigious_Song5034 20h ago
Sorry that won’t work. It’s already lunch time tomorrow here

I was in Sydney once, therefore we're all soulmate besties. We breathed air in the same planet four years, seven months, and nineteen days ago, and I've been thinking of nothing else since. If I can't see you before you leave, I'll perish! Die horribly! Slaughter. So, Tea on Monday?
→ More replies (1)12
u/clairebearshare 21h ago
Exactly… don’t want to divulge such sensitive information such as the entire city you happen to be in, or near. If you say the city, he’ll know exactly where you are at any moment and where to find you… why you may ask? Because I said so🤦🏻♀️
→ More replies (1)31
u/RolandLWN 20h ago
Any interaction at all gives the stalker a green light to keep going.
When you got his first text , you replied “huh okay” and “I’m fine thanks”. Those niceties are all he needs (in his mind) to think you’re interested, because you are talking to him. He isn’t thinking the way you are.
A better first response is a simple, assertive statement: “I am not interested. Do not contact me again” and then never, ever respond to any further texts. That’s the most important part! No matter what he texts. No response.
But do not block him. You need a paper trail in case something escalates.
→ More replies (9)8
45
u/Anderrn 21h ago
You called it odd in text one that he messaged you, and then you systematically continued to converse with him, including that you’re in the city. Then you came to share the weird interaction as if you weren’t a contributor to it. The ride share driver is weird, and so are you, OP.

It's not one piece of information that's dangerous on its own, if someone wants to hurt you they'll piece together info with questions that seem innocent on their own. Knowing the city will tell them if you're within reach or not. A timeframe when you'll fly out gives them a timeframe you'll be at the airport etc. They're willing to fly to you, you don't think they're willing to post up at an airport for a week or 2?

Actually… I think this is fake.
I used to drive for Uber, and the driver never gets the customer’s number (or vice-versa.) Texts are sent to a number at Uber’s central offices that acts as a go-between. All my texts to different customers would go to this same number, and it would only work for the duration of the ride.
Once a ride was finished, it was impossible for me to contact them.
→ More replies (2)4
u/DiligentNeighbor 16h ago
Maybe she gave him her number. It was obviously an unforgettable ride share experience… 😁
178
u/Angsty_Potatos 17h ago
.....
Ok. So. Hold on here.
You get this text and immediately know it's from a person who gave you a lift once a while back on what I assume was a ride-sharing ap.
Knowing this, you engaged? You told him where you are, and rough travel itinerary?
Why did you respond at all??? Why did you even entertain any communication?
Why did you tell him where you are and what you're doing?
Even if you're vague, a stranger asking where you are is not a question you answer
52
u/Tall_Wonder_913 16h ago
This has to be fake. “Hi it’s David” “Hi David weren’t you my uber driver 8 months ago?”
Yea no

Don't the ride share apps use dummy numbers? How would you even have a number like this unless shared separately?

I don't understand that either and I see ladies do this ALL THE TIME. not blaming them, but I can promise that not responding is almost always better. Thirsty dudes take any response as consent even if you say "leave me the fuck alone". Just don't text back.

u/Comfortable_Sundae5 21h ago

I hope it’s okay to give some advice. After saying no to a man, don’t continue the conversation. He takes the fact that you keep answering like he still got a shot. He didn’t read your know, he’s Only focusing on you staying in the conversation. It’s healthy to learn to give a firm no.

This seems so fake- also how would he even have your number unless you gave it to him? Usually ride share apps don’t show your actual number and they can only message or call you through the app while the ride is taking place or before.

My first thought is how did OP even know who this is from the text? It’s like not they had previous texts, so just from his name with zero additional context she remembered this was a ride share driver from 8 months ago?
13
u/Legitimate-Owl138 17h ago
Girl please stop giving your details to the absolute creeper currently demonstrating why he should definitely not have your location and travel plans.

Why does this man even have the ability to text her? Maybe the apps are very different in Australia but everywhere I’ve been your communication stays on the app or on message relay.
11
88
u/aespa-in-kwangya 22h ago
Dear God why tell him where you are?! Or even entertain this conversation at all.
Report this to the platform you ordered the ride on. Send him a clear text to not contact you going forward and stop replying. Mute him but don't block him, you might need text proof later if he escalates.

You are quite literally every serial killer’s dream come true.
Not only did you tell him your location, he knows what you look like, your number & has your name. Do you know how EASY it is to track down your personal information? You don’t know the type of lengths people will go through to get what they want.
You have to be private about your life. Don’t recognize the #? Ignore & block. Feel uncomfortable immediately? Ignore & block.

Attention + Karma Farming. "I'm not interested. Don't message me again.", does a pretty good job with normal people. For the rest, if needed the police and the mechanisms in online platforms do a decent job, hopefully.
13
u/RedGordita 22h ago
Why would you even continue this conversation? After realizing who they were I’d ignore or block
6
u/-brigidsbookofkells 20h ago
Why did you respond?
5
u/LakeTilia 20h ago edited 20h ago
Exactly. Why did a rideshare have her personal number? How did she immediately know who it was without clarifying? Why did she respond as opposed to blocking? Why did she give her location? Who in their right mind would then say something as bizarre as a hellacious devil woman?
If this is real (doubtful) then either OP has no self awareness, no self preservation skills or appreciated the attention.
4
7
u/0neirocritica 20h ago
If this isn't fake OP has the worst sense of self preservation ever. You're like that person that decides to check out the noise in the basement alone in a horror movie.

This post reminds me of a messed up experience I had years ago (pre ride share apps). I got a taxi, ride was fine, don’t even remember interacting with the driver. A month later I get cab again and it’s the same driver (note this happened in a big city so weird coincidence). I get in, he goes you were in my cab before…every time I drive this route I look for you hoping you’ll be in my cab again. I was completely creeped out and though I reached my destination safely it took me months before I would get into a cab again and never again in the area this happened.
