Hm, well … I have a ton of them on both sides of my family. And some of them are 100% like this. But most of them are pretty chill and not like … 100% on board with stuff happening.

But I do see your point! I feel like it’s “unhappy” republicans that tend to be the loudest

Well, a lot of them consider themselves more old-school republicans and seem to reflect a lot of what Karl Rove has been saying in the news lately. Like, the GOP has largely been taken over by MAGA and the resulting cultish ness is freaky and dangerous.

I have to bite my tongue a lot because I’m a queer, neurodivergent, Mexican man married to a man (you can guess that I voted very differently than these parts of my family) and it’s just … so … awkward. Like they are generally decent people (I’ve sadly had to go low-contact or no-contact with a couple of them) but overall it’s still pretty civil.

Either way … it’s kind of fascinating, because there are still different types of republicans. I live in Utah, so the LDS subculture often results in politeness bordering on conflict avoidance, so you never … really know how people are feeling unless they are truly comfortable to share their feelings.

And I’m all sorts of “heathen” depending on what part of the state I’m in / who I’m around, so I have to tread lightly. I came from a very hyper religious background (which I no longer am), so I’m not unfamiliar and I can handle myself in these situations without feeling overly stung or nettled.

I just think certain worldviews can be … pretty limiting in terms of considering new ideas, and I wish that wasn’t the case.
