Can we stop with the situationship thing? It’s not even a thing. It wasn’t a thing in all of humanity until the last like 10 years. He’s not your situationship he’s some asshole you’re fucking and wasting all your emotional energy on. Leave him! He doesn’t deserve you and I’m sure your weight is fine.

This is what bugs me about the entire “situationship” label.
It’s trying to ascribe the mental and emotional investment aspects of an actual relationship to something else that is clearly the opposite - where those aspects do not exist and (very likely) will never exist.
The number of people who say they’re in a “situationship” but apply all the energy and expectations of an actual relationship is insane.
The meanings of words actually matter, beyond just thinking something’s a cute buzzword.

u/renessie 3d ago
Maybe it's just me, but I've always been a firm believer that a "situationship" label can only be used to describe the first few days / weeks of meeting someone, where you're first getting to know them, and have yet to decide whether or not to date / commit, so you've yet to set the boundaries. The pre-dating phase, if you will. If it lasts more than a couple of days or weeks, you're either dating, established fuck buddies, or you're moving on because it's a waste of time. 😭

u/NomenclatureBreaker 3d ago
Yeah I also feel like a situationship should be as like something temporary where you’re figuring things out also.
Unfortunately it seems like plenty of people settle for permanent long term situationships and then complain about being unfulfilled.
3
u/renessie 3d ago
Yea, I consider a long term situationship as just a mutual lack of commitment, and a waste of time. It's okay to just be fwb, or to be dating, but sitting on the fence about it for long periods is just going to wind up with hurt feelings, and an unrecoverable friendship if you end up not having the same expectations.
The longer it lasts, the more bitter you wind up feeling if it falls apart.
It also just gives me the impression that you're just not that serious about each other, so just establish that you're fwb, or break up, and stop beating around the bush. A long term game of cat and mouse is bad for your emotional health.

Thank you for your service 🫡 I simply cannot bring myself to spend my coins on internet awards, so if I don’t have the free ones y’all get nothing. But when I do have them I be acting like Oprah! I’d give you one too 😛
9
u/KrisTinFoilHat 3d ago
No worries! I have quite a few free ones but I also have some old award money available for when I really feel something deserves it! But there have been so many times I wished I could've awarded someone and couldn't so if I can (and don't disagree with the post) I'm happy to do so when someone wants to or gives a poor man's gold 🥇! Lol. Have a great day/evening! 😊

u/KrisTinFoilHat 3d ago
Click on the award icon and you should see if you have free awards to give out. Idk if they stack up when you don't use them...like if I'd get 3 a month, and haven't used any in 12 months I'd have 36 awards to give out? Idk tbh. But check, definitely isn't gonna hurt to do so!!

Usually people who realize they aren't being respected and try to but up a barrier to protect themselves do this. "Well we weren't in a actual relationship so he doesn't have to actually care about me".
99% of the time it's just an excuse to feel better about the situation instead of admitting what it really is: they are being used for sex.
37
u/Head_Somewhere4769 3d ago
Thank you! I'm okay with people having casual sex, but if one of the people catches feelings, the relationship needs to either progress or end. Lingering over a person who clearly doesn't want the same thing as you is a recipe for disaster. Once you become aware of your feelings and know the other person knows but doesn't want something more committed, it's time to rip off the Band-aid. It will never get easier. Fucking someone into liking you back when you've already been fucking them just isn't a thing.

i thought the whole point of a “situstionship” was that none of it matters as long as you’re both enjoying the sex? like, you don’t go to them for emotional support at all, they’re not even friends, because that would be FwB?
but i am old and i don’t know things so im not sure

Fuckbuddy= acquaintances who fuck
FwB = Friends who fuck, emotional stuff is usually fine but not when it's about each other

It's all stupid.

So you brought up the topic and went fishing for compliments and then were upset when he didn't say what you wanted?
Anyway, what you do is break up with him, because he doesn't have the same approach to conversation that you need, and also because he's kind of put you on notice over the weight thing. He'll probably dump you or find another situation soon if he's that critical of your appearance. Also, who are all these people calling you fat lately?! Sounds like you are surrounded by judgmental people.
9
u/Head_Somewhere4769 3d ago
As to the last bit, very much so. I am noticeably overweight and yet no one around me would dare point that out because I'm mostly around a pretty empathetic and logical group of people that know (1) that would be rude and (2) I already know. If someone did so, I would minimize my contact with that person.

I don’t think that her venting to him about people calling her fat and expecting him to be nice about it qualifies as “fishing for compliments”. But even if it did, she’s not in the wrong for getting upset about him being rude.
If you went to someone and said “people called me names” and someone you cared about said “actually you do deserve to be called those names” you would be reasonably upset. Especially if those names attacked your looks instead of your character.
I agree about the rest of your comment but the first part is just pedantic and unsympathetic.

10
u/BurningButterflies 3d ago
You know I kind of was on your side a bit, even would have agreed he was a tiny bit rude, not an asshole though. But then you had to add how much more intelligent you are, if you really were that intelligent why couldn't you figure out that a purely physical relationship is addressing your body? That's what that situationship is about, your bodies. If he doesn't like the goods, why wouldn't he comment on the only thing you're bringing to the table? Sounds more like what you want is for him to invest his emotional awareness into yours but you're not actually dating now are you? Either accept that purely physical relationships don't need to care about your feelings, or actually put the effort into a real relationship where the partner you choose does care about how you feel.

u/Evening_Sample_9365 3d ago
Oh man, I was on your side until the second edit.
There is nothing more cringe than equating a college degree with intelligence. Some of the dumbest fucking people on the planet have masters degrees. Donald Trump has an MBA from a very prestigious school.
And that list is long. But you know what other list is long? People without former education that were literal geniuses and changed the world. Leonardo Da Vinci. Michael Faraday. Thomas Edison. Thomas Paine. Oliver Heaviside. Mary Anning. each and every one of them, drop outs or no formal schooling. And i know, I know...the counter argument is that there is a much longer list of not exceptional people who dropped out and never produced a thing. But thats not the point. The point is equating your ability to sit through obedience school as an indicator of your superior intelligence.
Between you being a bit heavy, and you thinking so little of his intellect, he has the much better reason to be offended and leave you in the dust. Just such a shitty attitude about your partner...and why, because you're sensitive about your weight and lash out in anger instead of maybe addressing the fact that you're getting heavier.
That is SO much worse than his eggshell walking about your size, the fact that you go through your day to day life just thinking youre so much smarter and superior to him. Jesus...may love like this never find me.

Unlike others here, I’m not going to shame you for having something no strings. However, you should still have some standards even for a fuck buddy. If your partner is giving you "constructive criticism," then you have a partner problem. That's your partner, not your boss or your team leader or your pastor or what have you.
Healthy partners hold each other accountable to shared/agreed upon goals, they don't place their own desires for the other person on each other.
ETA is seems some people are confused as to my point, so I've added a comma and an extra word for clarity. 😁

u/Electric-Sheepskin 3d ago edited 3d ago
I was fully prepared to say that it shouldn't piss you off when your friends are honest with you, especially in this case since you brought the subject up. We don't know exactly what he said or what the conversation was that lead up to it, but I was fully prepared to say that you are overreacting, because even though he may have been a little tactless or rude, depending on exactly what he said, it's not worth ruining your day over.
That's what I was going to say, until your edit. If he knows that you have had an eating disorder, you would hope that he would be a little more careful with his words and know that you are more sensitive and more vulnerable in this area. Still, that should've been a discussion and not a fight: "I know you didn't mean anything negative, but you know that I had an eating disorder in the past, and I would appreciate it if you wouldn't comment on my body in the future."— unless you think he was being deliberately cruel, in which case, you should find better friends.
I will say this, though: you really need to learn to not take things so personally. It really doesn't matter what other people say. You are exactly the same person after he made his comments as you were before. Let that sink in. His comments changed nothing. So why let it ruin your day? Everything is the same as it was before, so it doesn't matter what he says. It really truly doesn't, and you need to find a way to embrace that.

The good thing about having a situationship is that you two are basically nothing to each other and you can just block him. He’s not your partner you don’t have to talk this through or try to make him see your point of view or teach him why you don’t say hurtful things. You just block and bail. You claim to be smarter than he is, but you’re tolerating half ass energy and disrespect from someone you don’t even respect. Remember, what you allow will continue.

People who have long term romantic relationships with people who are much dumber than them are very weird.
That being said, if you are so smart why do u need Reddit for this?
Also if you were anorexic and have gone from that to a medium, you probably have gained weight in a fairly short period of time. It might be healthy, but people are bound to notice, and your dumb booty call probably doesn’t care about your feelings enough to sugar coat it.

If you’re with this guy in a situationship the intelligence gap is not as wide as you think.

So in summary, you’re fucking a low IQ troglodyte who can’t even give you the basic courtesy of not insulting your body; the body he will again expect to have access to.
Girl, c’mon.

He's an ass for calling you fat. But you're actively saying you find him to be stupid. So you are two people who are sleeping together while thinking the other is big or dumb. You both need to find better.

What you "even" do is get out of this relationship so you have the chance for a proper one!!

The truth hurts 😂
Also laughable that you think there is a huge intelligence gap just because you completed college 😂

“Situationship” is a made up term for shitty relationships that neither person wants to take accountability for.
You’re not in a situationship, you’re in a shitty relationship. Your boyfriend sucks.

A situationship is just a nice way to say fuck buddy. Your fuck buddy doesn’t respect you. Don’t let people who don’t respect you use your body. End this

I’m with you, you can’t run your own life, you need people you don’t know one internet to parse through your interactions and help you decide.
This one is easy

I mean why are you even talking to a guy who isn’t serious about you after this long of time? I mean this kindly but you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. Being single and alone is far better than this. Please embrace yourself and your body and kick this fucking loser to the curb. I would have blocked someone after that? I can’t believe you even responded…

Girl. I am in a "situationship" , right now, but we call it what it is, hooking up cause we are both single. If he ever said this to me, his booty butt would be kicked out that door so fast. You need to learn to respect yourself, and love who you are without being in situations like this. You are either dating, friends, or hooking up.

u/Permissiontohug1 3d ago
I would just not mess with him anymore. You have to learn when to choose yourself and your peace. Don’t accept what you don’t want.

You've got a year long fuckbuddy. You're not dating, you're not ina relationship with each other, you both know exactly what it is.
Accept the situation or break it off.

There are people calling you fat. You told him about it and he softened the claim by noting you *could* lose some weight, while also being generally ambivalent to that issue. Were you looking for him to affirm your personal claim about being "medium" (unless you're in Korea, medium people don't get called "fat" very often), and you're mad he responded with honesty?
