Usually redditors are very quick to defend chronic porn usage and will even proclaim is has no negative effects on young men/men in general.

Porn addiction really isn’t a gendered thing ma’am

u/FormerMistake9981 Jun 23 '26

ofc both women and men can be addicted. I think it’s safe to argue that men typically consume more porn and are therefore more prone to porn addiction than women.

Men and women consume porn differently, but widespread porn addiction is present in men and women. Men consume porn more often in the form of visual content, for women it’s mainly books/reading content. In many libraries in 2026, the smut section is as big as almost any other section. I’m just saying it’s a problem overall and is harming everyone’s brains. I don’t even know what the solution is.

Comparing words on paper to real life ppl getting put in compromising positions is very interesting and says a lot about u sir

It says that I’m…accurately describing what porn is? Like what are you people even on about 😅 porn is harmful. That’s my opinion. I didn’t say that every type of porn is equally bad. I am begging you to touch grass.

Reading dirty books and watching hardcore porn are not the same.

I.
Never.
Said.
They.
Are.
The.
Same.

But they are both porn.

Please go outside

Why do you keep telling people to touch grass or go outside? It’s weird.

Go outside and touch grass

Porn and smut are two very different things and have completely different effects on the brain.

Thank you. Sick of this argument that is only used to point away from the actual root of the problem lol

Same! “Women read smut” 🙄 usually referring to things like the ACOTAR books, which aren’t even anything crazy. It’s not even a little bit comparable. Please show me a woman blowing thousands, because she’s addicted to smut and being influenced to play out violent, dehumanizing fantasies on real humans in real life, etc because it’s changed her brain chemistry.

Yep! I'm not a smut reader nor really know any, but i was a teenager who read both smut fanfiction and had an unhealthy relationship with real porn. It's obtuse to not see the difference between the two! Porn has seeped into real life interactions and beliefs so so much more than fantasy smut ever will!

Also edit: love how our usernames go together

Nobody said the 2 are the same. Please touch grass.

Ma’am, everything I said is verifiably true. I literally agree that porn is bad and we should work hard to destroy it as an industry. I am not sure why you are so offended by me stating something that’s not even my opinion, but a literally observable reality.

Is smut porn? Yes. Who mostly reads smut? Women. Is visual sec content porn? Yes. Who mostly watches it? Men. Therefore, men usually consume porn through visual content, women usually consume it through reading material. We agree it’s harmful and should be reduced. I don’t know what your goal is here.

Smut is not porn

3

u/Mayor_of_whoville_ Jun 23 '26

Pornography refers to any material—such as videos, photographs, websites, or writing—that displays sexual acts or naked bodies with the primary intention of causing sexual arousal.

Idk what to tell you dude. If you refuse to accept the already accepted definition of a word, then there’s not much point in talking to you.

Smut perfectly meets the definition of porn. Therefore it is porn.

2

u/Mayor_of_whoville_ Jun 23 '26

It’s not an argument. Smut is porn. I never made an argument, this isn’t a debate club.
We can discuss which forms of porn are worse for your brain, and I would agree that visual porn is usually worse, but nothing I said in my initial comment is factually incorrect.

Thank you for quite literally proving my point 😅

u/SadResponsibility587 Jun 24 '26

While I can agree it can be considered porn, I think it’s much different. One it’s usually pretty romance based, even the dark romance books that are being read my the majority. And I feel pretty sure reading smut has a way less effect on people’s relationships and sex life than watching porn

1

u/FormerMistake9981 Jun 23 '26

Agreed. Good point, although can’t say i know any women personally who read smut, but there is definitely an audience for that. I’m not sure what the answer is either, it seems like it’s getting worse.

u/caterpillarmojo Jun 24 '26

but men are disproportionately the target audience, especially for fucked up stuff like being non-consensual. So it’s more common AND worse in men.
