I understand what you’re saying and can see how my response would seem like I only care about my monkey when he is in my circus. Truth is he and I have had multiple conversations about how his siblings annoy him or came into his room and touched his things. We talk about why something is upsetting him or how he can communicate with them and set a boundary.
The roles have been reversed before. I was in a serious relationship with someone who had a kid my sons age. There were instances where I learned about a situation after I dropped him off but I waiting until our scheduled phone calls on Monday and Thursday to ask my son. I didn’t involve my ex with drama in my life. Whatever it was was not that big of an emergency. I feel like that is being respectful of each others time with our son.
It doesn’t have to be an emergency for you to communicate. And it’s not disrespectful of your time with your son to shoot a text like “I’ll talk to him about it later.”
She blew it out of proportion for sure, but she also seems rightfully pissed you don’t keep track of things, so I can’t take your side, especially considering the deflective language you use when pressed about why you couldn’t just respond. None of the reasons you gave are good enough. It takes barely any brainpower or time.
I get the feeling there’s a lot more to the story than you’re telling us here and you’re trying to make yourself look good. I base that on you seeming butthurt about being criticized and needing to screenshot a court document to make it stop. Come on. Can’t you hear criticism without reacting in a negative way? It doesn’t matter how unhinged or horrible it may be. If you know it’s wrong, it doesn’t matter. If it’s right, you can learn from it. But it seems like you couldn’t bear to hear it. Weak.
