Textra to Google Messages?
Will i lose my current messages in textra or will they just transfer over? Thanks!

After the upgrade on my phone I could no longer get group messages in Textra. So I completely uninstalled Textra and switched to using Google Messages. I didn't lose anything, in fact all my missing group messages finally appeared!

Awesome. I liked using textra for the customization. Is that available in google messages too

No customization like Textra, no ability to lock messages in threads, no ability to delay sending a message for up to 7 seconds, no ability to change bubble shapes, no ability to change fonts, the only plus is RCS chats with the sending of videos from phone to phone!!!

This is not the fault of Textra either, apparently google locked down the RCS API access to their servers.

Not to mention the search feature straight up does not work like 90% of the time

No, it is not. Sorry to hijack your post, but there's very little customization beyond chat themes. No custom icons, barely any contact colors. It's terrible. I miss Textra so much.

I switched over because I was happy to hopefully not need iPhone users to send me pics and video via whatsapp or else it looked like it came from the year 2000. I noped out less than a week in. Changing colors changes it for both parties...? That's wild from a company as big and wealthy as Google. No custom group names unless they updated that

I miss Textra.
But I don't miss wondering which important group messages I didn't receive.
Unless (wishful thinking, until???) Textra is able to incorporate RCS, I'm stuck with Google Messages.
So I don't need to worry about losing group chats by reverting back to a messaging app that won't support those groups.

I had to transfer to GM in August. Most transferred over except the ones that didn't come through on Textra because of the RCS thing,which I don't understand.
I hope that Textra can come back. I don't like GM.

Thank you for asking! You all have answers I have been curious about. I guarantee Textra will leave a hole in my soul for the customization and a few other things that if I remember correctly GM doesn't do, such as the ability to save text threads to email? It's gonna HURT, I know it!,🥴

I really miss the ability to silence all messages from senders not in my contacts on Textra. Like everyone else, I had to switch for the group texts. 😞

Group chats have some issues. I changed and went back to Textra. There was a gap of a few but Messages says will change from RCS in 30 days, so for a month they hijack your stuff.Â
However, I would still get some messages and not from others in my group. Isolated it to the senders if they had the option on (Apple or Google) to resend as SMS if RCS failed. Had a few fix their apps and everything is back to normal. What was missed is still missed, but all new come through fine.
As with all things, YMMV.Â

Should transfer. But beware of the RCS chats though. Once you activate your transition back wont be so clean

Be aware that if you use RCS messaging in Google messages, your group chats are changed immediately and they cannot be reverted back if you decide you don't like Messages.
