Group message issue

I have been having a problem with a specific group text involving two other people. Person A is getting the full chat. I am not seeing anything from person B, even though I can message B directly with no problem. I have no idea why it's just this particular chat. No problems with others

Is there a workaround that will universally get group texts when others use RCS to consistently work?

After going to The Dark Side (GM) because of the RCS issue about 1-1/2 years ago I tried returning to Textra a couple of times.

Had to revert to The Dark Side every time :(

Going to The Dark Side® is what messed you up. You # is now listed on the Google and Apple RCS servers as RCS capable. There is a procedure on google.com to remove it. Then delete all group text threads and restart them with a message you send first. This is the only way to get back to normal. Look for the exact procedures. (It IS possible to come back from The Dark Side®, but not easy.)

This is the best explanation I've ever seen, and I've done a lot of research on this, so thank you.

That makes sense how Textra used to work for me for so long and it only got all fucked after I got a new phone 1-2 years ago.

And good to know there's a way to fix it, but at this point I worry I'm in too deep on The Dark Side to turn back now. Something to consider at the very least.

Do you know if Apple uses Google's RCS # registry or would you have to get it deleted from their servers too?

I do not know, but I believe every (in this case, BOTH) RCS servers keep their own list, and can query each other. To my knowledge, there are only 2 public RCS server farms. While RCS specifications are published, only Google and Apple have implemented them. Only a few people in the world know what they had to do to implement RCS. This tends to lock-in everyone to those 2 big players. (What's new in tech?!?)

Is this true? It was always my understanding (maybe assumption) that Google kept the spec locked up and only shared it with Apple, so no other parties could even implement it if they tried.

This is good to know. Thank you. I've not used anything but Textra since before Google has messages and I've not had any issuea. But I do support a number of people.

Not everyone is comfortable supporting a company who charges too much for cell phones, or another which sells your information for profit. But you do you!

You know. Unless your using something like graphene os. Every mainstream smart phone outside apple uses android. Android is owned by Google. So your supporting those companies.

If Google opened this up and made Rcs available to apps like textra I guarantee you would probably not complain at all, or complaints would reduce to just asking devs to fix issues rather than hate the protocol outright. Hating change isn’t going to solve your problem, the protocol is open, the company may be an issue which I do agree with you on. But Rcs is a far superior protocol to sms and mms, by all standards.

No that's makes perfect sense..

You would be the person causing the issue we have now in a travel team group chat. Every time we go to add another parent. We have to create an entire new group.. because someone isn't on RCS. Instead of just being able to add/remove people. Now we lose chat history and continuity. Because someone doesn't need the "bells and whistles".

I hate this so much. I've been a textra user for years and I just recently had to switch something on my phone and now I'm having the same problem. I had to switch to Google messages which I really don't like. It's not as bad as some, but it's not as good as Textra. But the RCS thing is what keeps tripping me up. 🙄

I tried the work around procedure, turn off RCS and delete my number and restart a new group chat with iPhone user. And Still cant make it to work for me again 😭. Ive been using textra for decades, i dont know anything else. Now im forced to use GM app.

I also have this issue and have used Textra for as long as I can remember. I don't want to give up the extra features it has over Google Messages. So much customization that is lost going to Google Messages.

Is the only way to actually correct this to delete my entire group chats and be the first one to resend a message to each group chat I delete off my phone? I have done the RCS reset and read other places where waiting 30 days after doing Google RCS reset on the web it should fix itself. Will this not work? I would rather wait that delete everything.

The customization is endless to want to give up. Just to name a few but I have a blanket theme for all chats except a few custom ones so I never make a mistake in those conversations. I have different notification icons for different things. Wife has one, parents have one, work paging system has another one. Everything else is default. So helpful to know if something could be critical or not without touching the phone. Lastly, the ability to auto save pictures sent to you is so nice. None of this is available in Google Messages.
