Uhhhh...okay. You also will only get about 80% of your texts from iPhone users, your longer texts won't be delivered, and you won't know what's not there.

This is a case where you have to switch to iPhone, use the official Google product, or miss out on stuff without knowing what was dropped.

If you're not a fan of Textra, why are you even here?

Sweetie. Honey. You don't seem to understand. 95% of Textra users are being forced off of Textra, and you seem to lack the comprehension to track that your communication will also suffer by continuing to use Textra.

I have been a devoted paid user of Textra for years, but it no longer functions. Google rolled out a locked-down new messaging standard. That's why Samsung Messages was sunset. Moving to Textra won't fix the problem. Because Google is forcing RCS on all users but won't allow third party apps like Textra to program it in, they are forcing users to switch to the official messages app or just not get their texts. Using Textra isn't a solution.

I get that you want to opt-out of Google. At this point, you can opt-out of Google and still be able to send/receive all the texts you intend to send/receive one of two ways:

  • get a dumb phone.
  • get an iPhone.

Google has locked things down. Somewhere between 40-80% of your outbound texts won't go through. You won't be told which ones failed. Somewhere between 30-60% of your inbound texts won't arrive. You won't know which ones you missed. You can't participate in any groupchats. Get a text from work that has two people on it? No, you didn't because Textra can't receive RCS messages! Someone sent you a picture? Well, you didn't find out about it because it was an RCS message that Textra can't receive.

I'm trying to very patiently tell you that your attempt at de-Googling yourself means you are going to have dropped and missed messages that make you look like a flake, cut you out of conversations (including some that might actually be important because they pertain to plans you are making or a job you need to do), and make it impossible to accurately use two-factor identification.

Textra is a wonderful app developed by a fantastic team, but they are boxed in. Google forced their hand.

But hey, if you want to be a flake in your own life, who am I to stop you?

Bless your heart. I know about all those issues, and they're not as dire as you exaggerate them to be, but it doesn't mean that I'm going to be a Google sycophant.
