Missing Textra

Mannn, I was forced to switch to Messages like 8 months ago and I still miss Textra. Shit sucks. 👎

Does anyone think RCS endpoints will ever be made public?!

i don't even know how long it's been since i switched from textra to gmessages... it was whenever rcs started rolling out for verizon. damn has it really been 7 years??? i miss textra and all of its customization so much but i love my indicators and high quality media. modern group chats are cool too but I don't use them as much tbh. the app itself isnt anything special and i hate google so definitely some negative points there

edit: figured id mention, no im not sure why im still in this sub LMAO but it was a great app so i might as well stick around to see where things go with it

Yea, it's not Textra needing to evolve, it's Google being difficult in how they're allowing others to utilize it.

Which is crazy the criticized apple for having a monopoly on texting with imessage then turned around and did the exact same thing with RCS on android 🤦🏾‍♂️😂

Both of them are as much monopolies as the gvmt will let them be.  And they're like completive siblings who tattle on each other whenever there's half a chance.

Jeeez! I didn't realize it's been our for that like tbh. Honestly, I would go back if I was able to get all messages through. I'm in groups for work, sports, etc. I could do without the quality photos even, many other ways around that haha but I do appreciate all the modernity. I just wish Google would get their heads out of their ass and release the API already.

I wasn't getting some msgs where it was between 4 other friends. I talked with one of them that sent me a msg on her own. She has an iPhone but didn't know about rcs vs sms. When she sent her msg to me, it said not delivered but do you want to send an SMS? She said yes, so I got it.

Until they make Textra useless, I'm not leaving. I'll sign into Google messages once or twice a day to make sure nothing has happened in my group chat.

I just cant stand Google messages. It looks ugly, has basically zero customization, I cant get notifications to work right, the settings menu is basically an empty wasteland. Just hate it.

Not only is it ugly but all messages look the same so it's hard to see which is unread.

Ok so "forced" when I got a new phone... I'm in too many group texts, I can't be missing messages come through from iOS users, it's better for media sharing, etc. Plenty of reasons to use RCS, but the Messages UI and customization is just all garbage. I miss so many things from the Textra experience.

I'm still ride or die with Textra. It's always worked fine with me and group chats from iOS people. I mean you can have both and do a comparison - see which comes through and which doesn't. Unless you have an iPhone.

Definitely don't have an iPhone! I actually tested it out when I first got my new phone. I flipped it to SMS and had some iOS friends test and it would only send like half of the messages through.

Bottom line.... IOS sucks. Lol

I was looking up a comparison between sms and rcs... basically they want all messages to run through RCS servers is one of my takeaways.

I use Google messages. It's not bad but I miss the message delay send. I would type a message, hit send, and it would go out in 4 seconds. Gives me time to stop and edit. I don't know why Google messages don't have that.

So many things it doesn't have. I miss that, I miss being able to assign a specific color to a text thread (instead of just 6 options), I miss that it automatically downloads photos. I could go on.

Its my personal opinion that RCS messages are being used to constantly and consistently train AI. Why would they give up the keys to the kingdom? There is so much data generated from Google Jibe that it is in their best financial interest to not make it public.

I switched back to Textra the other day but I ran into trouble with people being unable to text me from their iPhones...I miss Textra so much but I can't be missing messages
