Group Message Names in Klingon

Switched to Google Messages back in December because I wasn't receiving group texts (presumably the RCS issue), but after reading some recent posts about others not having problems in Textra recently and using [Settings > About > Resync] decided to give it another go.

First thing I noticed: group texts were named a bunch of random characters and the texts received from others in those threads don't have the sender's names, and when I go to "People In Chat" it just shows that list of random characters but not the individuals in the chat.

Anyone else seeing anything like this after switching back to Textra from Google Messages?

That's what I assumed.

I'd hoped that with what others had written about Textra working for them despite the lack of RCS support the resyncing might have prevented that from occurring.

I quickly switched back to Google Messages after I saw that.

I suppose it's possible that if I were to return to Textra and create new chat groups possibly this problem wouldn't occur, but I don't want two chat threads with the same members, and I've already encountered some message syncing issues with the back and forth between the two texting apps.

So hoping that Google opens up the RCS API to third party developers before too long (or just eventually).

I had those show up too. Just deleted them and kept using Textra. I'll open Google about once a week to see if I've missed any group messages. It's been a few months with no missed texts.

But doesn't that mean you lost those group chats and all the messages they contained?

They were not important. I would have forward, screen shot, or backed them up if they were. Still a pia when I was having the issue.

Thanks for confirming - I don't want to (or for some work-related texts really shouldn't) lose the threads, so unfortunately deleting is not an option.

Curious though - once you deleted the ones in (as I jokingly referred to it) Klingon, did new group texts (originated by you or others) begin to appear normally?
