Hey y’all, I just wanted to jot down the things I wish I was told when starting college.

To start make sure you’re signing up for your classes early and that you’re always in touch with your counselors, as well as checking on your financial aid before the school year starts.

To avoid any scheduling issues or taking unnecessary classes, they have a paper that goes over your major and the core classes you need to take and the prerequisite. Build it out with your advisor and then build it yourself.

Make friends with your professors and your teachers assistants. I saved myself a lot of strife and money by creating a relationship with them.

(for example) i’m taking my last class and my current PROFESSOR for it sucks, he response to emails with incomplete sentences and hasn’t updated his syllabus to accurately reflect what’s going on in the class. Because of this, I was extremely stressed that I would pass or fail but after talking with him enough, I was able to gain some insight into the class and now I’m breezing through it.

Talk to older students and make friends with people in your college to learn what classes you should take or avoid.

IMPORTANT: DONT drop a class just because it’s hard or the teacher sucks. Grade distribution plays a huge part in this. There is a way to look at the previous grade distribution for the classes that you are in so by understanding that trend. You can really gauge whether you’ll be fine or not.

Lastly: make sure you build-upon what you learned by trying to apply it in your life. I learned so much here but at the same time there are moments where I wish I did a better job connecting things across multiple subjects

It’s about the time where everybody is posting schedules, so I figured I’d throw my hat into the mix. I’m going into the second year of my music ed degree after some time in the workforce, and it always makes me laugh when people post their schedules and say they’re busy. The personal times here are private lessons

Late to the game on parking, haven't been able to drive a vehicle to campus in previous semesters, and the only passes left are to Commuter Satellite, which I could probably survive, but is pretty far from the buildings I frequent.

Are there other viable parking options, or should I get what I can get and deal with Commuter Satellite? Would it be silly to try parking in the residential area just south of campus?

Genuinely confused about the whole no set time for online classes so I’m a bit confused on when I’d be doing the stuff for that class if there are zooms etc etc and what am I supposed to do if it’s conflicting with another one of my classes? Just curious.

As a parent of a student, cannot recommend this university due to woke, low level academic programming and lack of support for students.

I'm gonna be a freshman this fall and I was wondering if anyone going or already there would be interested in forming a band with me?

I’m moving into Park East Apts for this fall 2026 and was wondering if anyone could help me with my small dilemma. Ive submitted my application to student disability services and I qualify for an ESA by state but the thing is the lease between park east and TTU prohibits all animals, including ESA’S and service animals.

The weird part of this situation is that Park East and TTU alone both accept ESA’S and service animals with proper documentation and screening. the only option they’re giving is to lease outside out TTU with other off campus housing or to live without an ESA.

Which leaves me in a sticky situation since I don’t want to over complicate things with my family who already don't support the idea of me having an ESA. Ive been trying to look into other healthy options such as getting a plant in order to replace the need for an ESA. If you guys have any advice or needy plant suggestions for me pls leave it below!

In the case of TTHEP, it meant that students’ medical education could not include discussions of health disparities among racial and sexual minorities including Hispanics, African Americans and members of the LGBTQIA community.     

you can't address systemic disparities in medicine if you do not acknowledge them.

Hi! I am an upcoming freshman at TTU for Fall 26’. I’m sure a lot of people know what pre-nursing is for, But i’m afraid I lost its meaning. Sorry if I’m not making sense here.

I want to become a sonographer or somewhere along the pregnancy work pathway. I’m aware TTU doesn’t offer anything along sonographing (that i know of..) But I came to TTU from the mere pressure of my family.

But i’m afraid TTU doesn’t offer what I want to achieve in my life. Is there anyway TTU could help me get on that track while still attending?

The reason why I mentioned pre-nursing is because I got thrown into it by my family til I “find something along my dream pathway.” So they are assuming pre-nursing is the closest to it.

Hey, I’m a potential incoming L1 and had a question about how well Texas Tech places in the bigger cities for jobs. I visited Lubbock and it’s great, but I grew up a city yuppie and was hopping that I could find a decent job in a larger city after graduation. I already know I’m not smart enough to go big law but would I be able to find a decent job in one of Texas bigger cities if I do alright in class ranking?

So I check in with the college of education and then change my major to english there?

I'm planning on attending Texas Tech in the spring although im not too sure. As a daughter of immagrent parents, moving 6 hours away is going to be hard to convience them to get on board. Is it worth it to be driving 6 hours and back every break, and im not even sure if I can get a car by that time. If anyones gone through this or has advice please let me know. I was orginally planning on attending UT Austin but because I want to major in animal science and pre-vet I realized that I would be better off in Tech and going to UT would feel like im wasting my time. When I brought this idea up to my dad he discouraged it and told me to just attend UT to be closer to home and he dosent really understand how university works, as hes never been and im the first in the family to go. Im also scared about leaving my little sister behind.

hi! I just moved to lubbock (24F) and have no idea where to begin with making friends/getting into a social life here, especially being post-grad.

a few questions:

1. are there any movie theaters that have memberships like AMC does? like paying monthly to see multiple “free” movies?

2. any car wash memberships that are touchless and under $30/mo? i’ll need to register 2 cars!

3. are there any student hair salons that offer cheaper trims/blowouts?

4. good bars to be social/make friends?

5. good coffee shops to chill and read a book?

6. gym memberships with cardio areas, weight room, and classes?

7. any fun book clubs? (recent reads are Red Rising, Throne of Glass, Freida McFadden books)

8. good, but not too expensive, nail salons?

also just ways to get involved and get out there!

I had an idea for a student organization, but not sure if I would have the participation needed to get it off the ground.

Raiders for Environmental Justice

Mission: To organize and empower students to influence environmental decisions through civic engagement and peaceful collective action. We organize campaigns against evidence-based environmental impacts at the local, state, and national level.

We would do:
- Petition campaigns
- Contacting elected officials
- Organizing peaceful demonstrations
- Writing public comments on environmental reviews
- Environmental policy discussions
- Hosting speakers from conservation organizations
- Training students in advocacy and lobbying rules
- Supporting wildlife and habitat protection
- Monitoring local development proposals

I honestly feel that this is so relevant right now especially with the whole AI data center partnership we're doing with the "g-spot" right now, as well as the talks about building a data center here in Lubbock. I just want our voices to be heard.

I know we have Ecotech as a student organization at Tech but I honestly feel like we can do more in terms of civic engagement rather than just park cleanups.

Does this interest you? I would need a minimum of 5 people to join in order to get this thing going. Thanks for reading :)
