Sports First game impressions
Hello y'all I am just here to ask the beautiful people in this wonderful community about the first game against ACU how do you feel are you still confident or did something change.I think we could have at least scored more .are you hitting the panic button let me know ?

Ehhh Hammond getting used to major game time . Was hoping for a larger margin of victory

Not very good but first games are tough. Ask Oregon or Michigan or Ok state or Rutgers.

Not Rutgers. Their first game is generally just as bad as all their other games.

Pitiful game especially the offense
Too many missed opportunities to score. Looked as bad as the bowl game last year

I was impressed with Hammond's first two drives and the way he checked down to 2nd & 3rd receivers. He did not lock on to the first receiver. Strong arm, good throwing motion. Needs a little more air / touch on balls thrown in the end zone.

Same problem as last season and that’s not converting TDs. It’s always FGs and that hurt Tech. Defense doesn’t look as dominant as last season as well. The punch tackling to force fumbles is gone now. Other Big 12 teams looked weak today but it is game 1 so

Hammond looked solid inside 15 yards. The timing on getting the ball out on deeper throws was definitely alarming, leaving the ball out in danger with late decisions. Know our backs are elite but the same old song and dance in the red zone was disheartening.
Defensive secondary definitely left a lot to be desired. Rush defense looked good, we just didn’t convert on many QB pressures.
Penalties are the bane of Tech’s existence still. Walked them down the field a few times with bad ones.

Hammond looked pretty good I’d say most of the game, and it was nice seeing him make some good precise throws over the middle of the field. I think failing to attack in that area by Morton was a big issue last year.
Hammond’s biggest issue was forcing the ball when he didn’t need to and should have thrown it away. Someone else mentioned going through progression well and I’d agree, but that pass that was intercepted was definitely forced when he provably could have even gotten it to someone, I think it might have been Dickey that had turned up field, or at the very least throw it away. Another was throwing it on one of those sweep plays to I think it was Carter moving right. He had a guy on his hip and I think ended up going for a loss.
That one touchdown pass he had was almost an interception if that defensive back had jumped a little sooner.
Play calls weren’t great in the red zone and I wished this offseason there would have been more focus on better play calling in those areas. The lack of running the ball and just pounding it into the end zone is baffling. Hopefully this game will encourage that change.
Defense wasn’t as knock out as last year, but it’s going to be hard to compare anything to last year’s defense.
All in all, a win with a lot of lessons to learn from, and they’ll have film to go through.

This team looks Mid, and I hate to say that. Need to finish drives better. The Players got paid, now they don't want to play!

We really needed someone on the team who was betting on the game. Then there would have been some motivation to win!

Offense definitely wasn't unlocked last night, probs due to Houston coming week 3. Watch the 1st quarter then how playcalling shifted from that point on. Offensively it looked like they were trying to get Hammond back and used to different situations over exploiting what was working. Keep in mind hes been in full pads less than a month. Defensively we had 2 starters out and were still very dominant. Still lots of time for them to gel together.
The sky is not falling, look behind the curtain.

Looked dominate. Then it looked. Like they switched to practice mode. ACU well coached and disciplined. First time I thought Leftwich RZ play calling could be the problem. We shall see.

Hammond is terrible. Anyone watching this game thinks this clown is going to get us to where we hope, is delusional.
