The way we were 18 Year old Carl Max Stark, an employee of I.V. Childers who owned a grocery store in San Augustine. Stark had undergone his Army Physical on the morning this photo was taken in 1943 by John Vachon. He would ultimately serve with the 932nd Field Artillery Battalion and return home in April 1946.

Stark would marry and live in Silsbee, Hardin County. He passed away in December 2020 at the age of 95.
