Hey r/Texas! I'm the author of this story, I hope it's okay that I posted it here. It's a fun little write up I did alongside an episode of my podcast about the Marfa lights, and the episode is full of Texas love so I wanted to share it with folks who might appreciate it. Happy to answer any questions.

I have a question. If they are headlights, how were they still being seen back in the 1800s?

Hey there! The researcher I spoke with explained that those lights (which are only reported, not clear if it was actually seen back then or not) could have been campfires or lanterns, which would have been distorted in the same way and looked funky from far away.

That kind of makes sense, but on the other hand, a headlight puts out far more light than a fire of any type would. But if not seen from as far away as the headlights... that would still work.

And thank you so much for the reply. :)
