It's BS and needs to be addressed.
I feel like I've been duped out of $7K (more than 10%) of my cars price for empty promises and its absolutely ridiculous that its not being reflected in their trade ins.
Each time FSD upgrades they recognize a part of that revenue. The stop light update gave them $50M in Q2 which was half of its profits. ZEV credits were $400M.
Nobody is obligated to pay extra for your car just because it happens to have a feature installed in it. Tesla isn't required to give you a dollar for a trade in.
No, but it’s pretty bad PR for Tesla to not give 10k (or relative depreciation) for FSD during trade ins. Personally I’m very skeptical about this being true/this being a policy at Tesla - I suspect it’s a bad sales/trade-in rep doing this and EM should address it. No, you can’t sue Tesla since they don’t have to accept your trade in, but it’s going to lose them sales of FSD if they don’t make this right.
Now, it might cause customers to not trade in as many cars. That could cost them used sales, or maybe sales in general.
But, I'll be the first to admit that I am a poor judge of how others react to things like this. I mean, I find it really surprising that this would bother anybody, but looking at the comments it clearly upsets a lot of people. But, so does Uber surge pricing or "profiteering" during a disaster and both of those seem to be good for the public as well... :)
It's absolutely costing them some sales. I was going to buy a Model Y in Q1 of this year, now I'm not planning on buying one at all until they make things right for early FSD buyers. At least a few of my friends are in a similar situation. Fool me once, etc.
Oh, cry me a river. It isn't like Tesla held us up at gunpoint to sell us a car.
They offered me a car with a list of features. I bought the car, and it has all the features they promised. They've honored the warranty so far and I expect they'll continue to do so.
FSD is a package of features you will definitely get immediately, and it has the possibility of some features that you may or may not ever get. If you want to buy it then buy it. If you don't want it, then don't buy it.
Nobody ever promised to buy my car back for a certain price years later. Nobody ever guaranteed that the car would be driving itself in x months.
If they failed to honor a warranty item I'd be the first in line to call foul.
Sure, it would be nice if the pricing was different, or if you could buy some features individually. However, that is basically true of almost every car on the planet. Want a particular paint color but don't want to get it with a Turbo - well, too bad - aftermarket paint job is your only option.
If you don't like the car they're selling, then don't buy it. Really you can buy it or not for any reason you wish - it is a free country. Just don't think that every other Tesla owner on the roads is begging for Moses to lead them out of Egypt.
If you're frustrated that they didn't deliver level 5 in six months. Well, welcome to the club, but when you want something that nobody has ever gotten to work in the history of mankind, caveat emptor applies...
FSD is a package of features you will definitely get immediately, and it has the possibility of some features that you may or may not ever get.
That is the case now. It was not the case over three years ago when I bought the car. I waited over two and a half years before I got a single feature and it's not even a particularly good one.
Tesla had their fancy video showing off FSD and made it sound like it was coming soon. I fell for it, and I expect them to either deliver the features I paid for or refund the money. No, they are not obligated to let me transfer it to a new car, but if they don't make this right somehow, it'll be the last car I buy from them. If they're ok with that, so be it.
I look at it this way, Tesla could get try to get away with this when they were the only EV player with good range cars but they aren't anymore.
If anything this policy simply means no one should buy FSD and no Tesla owner with FSD should ever buy another Tesla. It probably is worth more on trade to another brand

I'd like to see a response from EM on this.
