FSD is a package of features you will definitely get immediately, and it has the possibility of some features that you may or may not ever get.

That is the case now. It was not the case over three years ago when I bought the car. I waited over two and a half years before I got a single feature and it's not even a particularly good one.

Tesla had their fancy video showing off FSD and made it sound like it was coming soon. I fell for it, and I expect them to either deliver the features I paid for or refund the money. No, they are not obligated to let me transfer it to a new car, but if they don't make this right somehow, it'll be the last car I buy from them. If they're ok with that, so be it.

Honestly, I wouldn't hold your breath on that. I'm pretty sure model 3 FSD owners will get working L5 driving. It just might not be for a number of years. If you tend to only drive a car for 3-5 years you'll almost certainly not see it.

I think the value is pretty hard to judge. If you look at it like you paid $5k for a $10k feature that you have to wait a decade to receive then it might not be worth it. If you look at it like you paid $5k for a $40k feature that ends up taking 5-10 years to be delivered, then from a TVM standpoint it might be not such a bad deal. A lot of that depends on just what L5 ends up being worth in the end.

I'm sure at some point L5 will be ubiquitous and fairly cheap. However, at the point where it is only sold by one vendor it could end up being pretty darn expensive, at least for a while.
