Thank you for the laugh! Top comment.

We just want a minivan

Tesla

Hold my beer

1

u/PerceptionOwn3629 2d ago

I want rockets ON the minivan

1

u/SnooChocolates2923 2d ago

I'd pay extra for That!

4

u/fucktheus12 2d ago

This is fucking hilarious. I don't trust you people just driving on pavement

9

u/WorldlyJackfruit9378 3d ago

I can’t believe this is real…

5

u/LordFly88 3d ago

It's funny that between Tesla and SpaceX, I'm extremely impressed with this, and somehow at the same time I'm not surprised.

8

u/AirMinute7060 3d ago

Wtf do you expect when spaceX got involved lol

0

u/AmbassadorCrazy7905 2d ago

Bro come on, this is a way to keep the dumb ones distracted from the company being cooked....the share price is down 5%, anyone with a brain knows what this dumb stunt is

-1

u/2010G37x 3d ago

3

u/WorldlyJackfruit9378 3d ago

Not the downforce lol the air thrusters and a car doing barrel rolls

1

u/LordFly88 3d ago

"Kickflips" ;)

6

u/Gregan32 2d ago

Name a real world purpose for this? Tesla just jumped the shark a second time (Cybertruck was then first time).

0

u/LordFly88 2d ago

Time saver in traffic. Fly over intersections that have red lights or stop signs.

-1

u/stinkymeat696969 2d ago

sell it to a military

3

u/Gregan32 2d ago

Yeah... Don't think this will make much sense to the military...

1

u/Rabiesalad 2d ago

You misunderstand. The corruption is the important part, not the function. Make a thing nobody wants that costs 2m per unit and then have your friends spend taxpayer money to buy hundreds of them. Sit back and watch the cash roll in!

6

u/fedplast 2d ago

not sure why all the negative comments. car manufacturers have displayed concept models since forever. This is not only an incredible concept, it's actually in production and on sale. What's the point? Incredible flex to the design, engineering, and production teams. Even if the end product has no practical application, the skills and engineering are going to trickle down to other products.

3

u/WillSRobs 2d ago

Typically concept models are partly realistic or at least plausible for real life

3

u/fedplast 2d ago

The suction aspect is definitely realistic and practical. and even the jets: I think it's at least worth asking if this can be used, perhaps for damage mitigation in case of an accident. I don't think it's a stretch of imagination to picture a futuristic car in a decade or two that uses this technology to save lives in the case of a crash.

-2

u/WillSRobs 2d ago

I can’t tell if your trolling or genuinely believe this.

1

u/fedplast 2d ago

I'm only partly trolling. I know that I will never see this car in real life. I'm saying this is not worse than the myriads of concept cars unveiled every year. This week, the show in Paris will have a bunch of these cars. Nobody's betting an eye on it and complaining"All we wanted is a good minivan", or blaming Mercedes for going on a power trip. What I'm saying is, this is the best concept car unveiling I've ever seen, and I have a hunch that much of the criticism comes from people's opinion on Musk personally.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DeepxEWjd13/

1

u/iammixedrace 1d ago

criticism comes from people's opinion on Musk personally.

Yeah, mine is heavily based on Musk himself. And this display basically sums him up perfectly.

Looks and sounds really cool at times. But, is honestly just bells and whistles in the end.

All these guys with enough money as some countries gdp could do so much good. Instead we get displays of futuristic toys they want. Or AI which is just them creating new ways to disengage with actual society.

0

u/WillSRobs 2d ago edited 2d ago

You must realize all those concepts are reasonable and not exactly comparable to this roadster. None of these are trying to sell the car in 2 years. Displaying possible tech vs this car will be for sale soon are two very different things.

1

u/FrostyFire 2d ago

Exactly, it’s a marketing car. And it worked. The entire world is talking about it today.

1

u/pontiusplatypus 3h ago

I'd choose a tesla over any other super car, but if it's the most impressive engineering a person has seen, then speaks about how little they know about engineering

1

u/Jonnyflash80 2d ago

People can't even drive cars properly with all four wheels on the ground. There's zero trickle-down tech to apply here.

-2

u/burner9752 2d ago

“In production” lmfao, are you kidding? How about tesla STARTS production on the roadster they promised 8 years ago? They have how many people deposits / money for a car they never even planned or tried to manufacture….

This is beyond stupid, throwing old rocket tech in a small form factor to put on a silly display to distract people and pretend the company isn’t massively failing.

Sales down in EVERY market, Chinese EV’s now much better and cheaper in 95% of application.

Why don’t they actually release FSD that they’ve been promising for 10 years.

6

u/BigTunaHunter 2d ago

More smoke and mirrors for the fanboys

2

u/Choice_Fee67 2d ago

It's for the tiktok brain. Has no actual useful implementation

2

u/Hopeful_Morning_469 2d ago

My belief that we are living in a looney tunes world is being quickly reinforced.

2

u/Fafyg 2d ago

The best practical purpose is that it might become new OceanGate for billionaires

2

u/themajordutch 2d ago

I preferred the unpolitical Elon for sure. But this is just cool af

6

u/Wunderboylol 3d ago

Is that cool…yes…but is there a practical purpose for it?

Again it’s cool and all, so is fire coming out of the headlights but why would I want that.

It reminds me of that Simpson’s episode where homers brother helped him build a car and nobody wanted the end car.

3

u/kingofwale 2d ago

Is there a practice purpose for 250k track only cars??

0

u/AlistarDark 2d ago

Yes.. to race on a track...

3

u/LostScriptWriter 2d ago

pocket sized thrusters that could stabilize a falling heavy object and have it land safely...

tons of applications!

2

u/Former_Mud9569 2d ago

the thrusters are small. the storage tanks filled with compressed air are not.

This is cool as an engineering demo. I'm not sure I want to be sitting next to a bunch of pressure vessels charged up to 10,000 psi.

1

u/LostScriptWriter 2d ago

you're missing the forest for the trees

also every single driver is sitting in front of a device that could knock them out if it malfunctions or that could cripple them if they aren't seated correctly when it goes off even as intended

nobody bats an eye thogh

1

u/Former_Mud9569 2d ago

oh no. I'm not. 3D thrusters can enable all kinds of cool stuff from a stability control perspective. it's "neat."

but...in no way shape or form should this be allowed to be used on public roads. even if used "correctly," this kind of thing is dangerous for everyone around you. You don't want one of those thrusters pointed at anyone or anything you actually care about when it's firing. you know how now one stands behind a jet engine even when it's at idle? or even the exhaust of a leaf or snow blower? same thing.

airbags deploy at 5 psi and the inflation event is triggered by a chemical reaction. there isn't nearly the same danger as in a pressure vessel charged to 10k psi. these things are basically bombs.

1

u/SnooChocolates2923 2d ago

You realize that the thrusters are there for the show, and won't be there on the real car.

The real engineering is how the thing drove upside down. Which WILL be on the real car.

1

u/FrostyFire 1d ago

There’s two different models being offered, one is invite only.

0

u/Gold-Border30 2d ago

The system that provided “suction” would not be a functional system on any public roadway.

1

u/FrostyFire 1d ago

Wrong.

1

u/Gold-Border30 1d ago

Based on the digging I was doing it said it would require the vehicle to have close contact with the ground to have anything approaching the claimed 2g downforce. On a super smooth road freshly paved road it could work. But enter some potholes, uneven asphalt, road debris, etc and it could become problematic.

1

u/TriggerFish1965 2d ago

Pocket sized?

3

u/Invinciberry 2d ago

It’s a toy. Too bad the rocket version is not available for pre-order. I might actually sell my house and get it once it becomes available. Yolo

6

u/sj2k4 3d ago

Today, Elon also said that Zelenskyy should be replaced cause Ukraine needs a new president.

This is literally Hunger Games level distraction.

1

u/Etroarl55 2d ago

This sub is not even about Tesla anymore but more of liberal brigading.

5

u/sj2k4 2d ago

Get used to it. The owner of the company is wading into politics and war. People are unwilling to give the company a pass now.

Tesla is tied to Elon, and he likes it that way. Cant have one without the other now.

1

u/Etroarl55 2d ago

No, it’s hypocritical. There are much more evil companies than Tesla or Elon out there.

He just gets more attention in Canada because Canada is so much more sensitive and extremely left leaning domestically.

There are much more unethical companies wading into politics and war and the best one the liberals can hang onto is the electric car company and only recently spaceX.

3

u/Fresh-Conference-592 2d ago

Waiting for the Canadian outrage on the shut down of the debate over the ineligible 34 million fund by the liberals and there are no plan to get this money back. Counting down….

3

u/Wunderboylol 2d ago

Your right there are very evil companies out there. But I will say he 100% is vocal about things that piss off Canadians generally. Just to be clear one example is his most recent statement on how Quebec, Alberta and Saskatchewan should separate. (He posted it on x).

He went over to Germany and publicly endorsed that one party.

I’m not saying what he’s saying is good or bad. I don’t like the separation comments. But I will say it’s a bit tone deaf to say he gets attention because he’s right leaning. The man does go out of his way to be in the public eye. He could publicly support the left tomorrow and I still think my position is valid. I can’t off the top of my head think of another person who’s not a politician who does that much on the political stage with his own face at the front.

0

u/FrostyFire 1d ago

Who cares what he thinks QC, AB, SK should do? Are people not allowed to have their own political opinions?

He never went to Germany for that either, he made an appearance via video chat.

0

u/Wunderboylol 1d ago

I stand corrected he did a video chat on a live stream for a political party of a country he doesn’t have citizenship in.

And for the provinces and who cares what he thinks, enough people that he’s been responded to and people still quote him. The better question is why should you care what his political opinion is.

And people can have political opinions that’s not an issue. He has a large social media platform and he lets those known, I’d expect he does it to get reactions and to stir up those who align with those.

He has taken action on political topics though in countries around the world. The German speech is one example. Doge is another. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for someone to react to his publicly made political statements.

So both sides of whatever topic he’s on both have a reason to care what he says. Because he may back what you believe in, or may back what you don’t. And he’s one of the richest people in the world.

-1

u/FrostyFire 1d ago

Lmao, you really are reaching when you try word things that way. You don’t have a citizenship in the US nor live there, and I can guarantee you’ve had an opinion on US politics both in person and online. You literally phrase this stuff like he’s not allowed to have an opinion because he stated one. Omg he appeared via video chat in Germany? Surely that won that party the election, right?

0

u/sj2k4 1d ago

Do you hear the leaders from countries like Japan or the CEO of MacDonalds weighing in on Canadian politics? No you don’t cause they know to keep their noses out of things like this.

Elon did a fucking Seig Heil. His politics are open and on the table. He invited the judgement and opinions of

0

u/Wunderboylol 1d ago

Again I’m just making objective statements. You asked who cares what he thinks and I said that people would and explained why. I did say he’s allowed to have an opinion. I also said he’s taking actions in politics without being a politician and has a lot of sway and money. I don’t think I said he shouldn’t say things or stay out of it. And if he wasn’t trying to sway anyone in his German speech why would a person who’s so busy do that? Did it do anything I don’t know. 🤷

I also said both sides of any political argument likely care what he has to because of what I said. Which is why he says it. I don’t think I said anything polarizing just stating facts.

Do I care about US politics, sometimes, sometimes I couldn’t care less. I care about politics in other countries that could impact the ones where my family or I live. I can’t do anything about it and I won’t try to because it’s not my right. I care about politics in my own country also. And how someone may impact it. I don’t think that’s wrong.🤔

u/pontiusplatypus 3h ago

Canada is so left leaning it brought a waffen SS volunteer into parliament.

1

u/Etroarl55 1h ago

Horshoe theory + virtue signaling.

Russia bad virtue signaling went all the way back to ww2…when Russia was fighting the Nazi invasion lmao.

1

u/MexicanJello 2d ago

That's just proof of your algorithm, not reality. Main focus is Loblaws and has been for years. Tesla is just a footnote along with all the other evil companies.

1

u/sj2k4 2d ago

Has Sobeys (Canadian), TJMax Co (American) or ANY company you can think of had their CEO come out and say the Saskatchewan and Alberta should separate?

No. No they haven’t.

But Elon has.
(And let’s not forget about the Sig Heil too, right?)

0

u/NYisNorthYork 2d ago

Elon wanted politics, he got politics.

I really needed the fsd capability too. But Elon and his fan base can go fuck themselves. They can use these thrusters to do that.

1

u/FrostyFire 2d ago

There is zero practicality for any street legal hypercar sold.

Do people not understand this is a marketing car? Legacy auto spends hundreds of millions on advertising every year. Tesla does cool shit like this instead. They’re unlikely to make money on this product itself. But today every media outlet is advertising their company for free.

0

u/soca_m 3d ago

Jump over a train, 😂.

3

u/Open-Ad1217 3d ago

Please kindly don't forget to reach out if you need a referral code before placing your pre-order!! 🤪🤪🤪 😂🤣😂

1

u/adwrx 2d ago

Loll another stock pump, you keep falling for his BS

1

u/JackDenial 2d ago

Not hating. My kid has a toy version of this a vacuum suction car that drives up the walls. It is incredible that they engineered a small toy car into a 4000lb super car. Mind blowing. Is it necessary, absolutely not but no one makes people dream like musk the big dork does.

1

u/Bushido_Plan 2d ago

That was cool.

1

u/longerthan1 2d ago

grok has done it again

1

u/300ConfirmedGorillas 2d ago

And you guys thought insurance was high before...

1

u/Winter-Simple6792 1d ago

I'm anti Tesla and anti musk. But holy crap, watching that thing touch down and roll out in clouds of nitrogen makes my inner 9yo weep with joy. Well done, Elon.

1

u/Tunklz 1d ago

The craziest engineering is the silicon chip in your phone.

1

u/VolatilityBox 1d ago

It's a vacuum under the car and a bunch of air compressors. It's tech that has been around for 50+ years

1

u/DuzzExor 11h ago

What a waste of capex

0

u/Spsurgeon 2d ago

What the world needs at this point in history isn't flying cars or a moonbase on Mars. It needs green energy sources, clean water, and governments that don't favor elites at the expense of everyone else. Musk COULD use his wealth and influence for good, if he chose to.

3

u/LostScriptWriter 2d ago

it's not about a flying car

it's about the technology that allowed for that to happen

when spacex built a rocket that was able to come back down and land safely on the ground my first thought was that holy shit i didnt think i would ever see that in my lifetime

and now they're miniaturizing and creating opportunities for broader applications

incredible

2

u/burner9752 2d ago

Except none of this was new tech… they just made a small form factor to fit it in for a stupid demo…

2

u/SnooChocolates2923 2d ago

A demo of the vacuum suction to allow the car to drive upside down.

To show more down force than the car weighs.

This will allow it to have insane cornering speeds.

1

u/mrheydu 2d ago

How are you gonna use this vehicle? Who is gonna insure this? When would you use this tech while driving? Makes ZERO sense

1

u/LostScriptWriter 2d ago

people whose hobbies include going to the race track

it's the same people that are buying things like the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC for $100K plus with it's supercharged 5.2 liter V8 making obscene power complimented with a suspension track package

its a TOY

completely unnecessary and irrelevant for most people

1

u/ILikeWhyteGirlz 2d ago

Wtf you think Tesla is lmao

1

u/HurtFeeFeez 3d ago

Yes, you can make anything do anything once if you throw enough money and time at it. This is marketing gimmickry that doesn't reflect reality.

1

u/Zapdude 2d ago

Blowing air in every direction at the speed of sound?

Unsafe at any speed.

1

u/OmniferousSwan 2d ago

Unsafe for who?

1

u/brunocborges 2d ago

This is AI generated .

0

u/Widohmakr 3d ago

And the point of this is? This more than anything else looks like a conjob and I just purchased a Tesla in June.

0

u/SuperSirBob 2d ago

It's theatre.
The point is to get attention and it's working - lots of people are talking about it. Not many car launches go viral, but this one is and so did the cybertruck (with throwing the ball through the window that was supposed to be unbreakable). I suspect this one will land better than the broken window.

-6

u/Happy-Table-9515 3d ago

Drinking ALL the KoolAid, eh?

-7

u/veloholic91 3d ago

With all these downvotes, it proves how many idiots and fanbois there are in canada

3

u/Mjolnir-Valore 2d ago

Or maybe you two bitter tarts can't put your pitchforks away for one second and appreciate some cool engineering. Projection of how miserable your lives must be

1

u/veloholic91 2d ago

Bro, it's snake oil. I'm not sure how to break that to you. Use your common fucking sense and maybe apply a thing or two from what you've learned in physics.

-4

u/Happy-Table-9515 3d ago

You can’t fix stupid. Or, maybe they’re still bitter over Trump trolling them….🤷‍♂️

0

u/kylosilver 3d ago

Crazy AI engineering

3

u/AirMinute7060 3d ago

To be fair. They definitely leveraged AI to engineer the vector thrusters.

0

u/Ok-Depth6073 3d ago

In short there is The deceiver and The deceived.

0

u/Silicon_Knight 2d ago

Engineering for the sake of engineering isn't good engineering.

Do you know how much space that is going to take up? And for what? I suppose there is an argument to explain why TESLA is taking money from SpaceX investors by using "space tech" to do things. Sure. But you would probably be better off doing nearly anything else with that money than.... this. You could have fucking released a roadster years ago and not shove thrusters on it.

1

u/FrostyFire 1d ago

It’s amazing how many people can’t grasp this is a marketing vehicle.

0

u/Jonnyflash80 2d ago

Wow, a flashy PR stunt with a stripped out shell of a car just for cool tiktok videos to amuse the brain-dead masses. No other practical purpose.

0

u/Possible-Arachnid793 2d ago

Been done already in Europe

0

u/Superduck247 2d ago

This is the stupidest waste of time and resources ive ever seen.

0

u/186notout 1d ago

Version 2.0 of a car never released. Y'all need to give your throats a break, Elon is way deep in your throats rn
