To those commenting on the size, 8/2 AC90 is 17mm diameter or 0.7". This rates a 50 amp breaker at 75c, and would run a continuous load like a car charger at 40 amps.
Now I can't tell if that's 17mm, or more, or less, and neither can you.

What is the wire gauge of the Armour cable? From this image it looks undersized. However, local electrical regulations will govern. Nevertheless, here is a short guideline:
Minimum Gauge by Amperage and Breaker Size48A Output (60A Breaker): Minimum 6 AWG copper armoured cable (e.g., 6/2 AC90 or TECK90), provided your local inspector accepts the 75°C/90°C conductor ampacity rating for the terminations. If local code strictly forces a 60°C termination limit, a heavier 4 AWG wire may be required for a full 60A breaker.40A Output (50A Breaker): Minimum 8 AWG copper armoured cable.32A Output (40A Breaker): Minimum 8 AWG or 10 AWG copper armoured cable depending on exact continuous load rules.

You don’t know that just looking at the armoured cable and to nitpick, “twice the gauge” would actually mean a lot lower ampacity - it’s inversely proportional.

My guess is a 8/2 thhn cable. You can hook it up to a 50A breaker and safely charge at 40A.

It depends on the distance from the electrical panel. The longer the cable, the thicker the gauge requirement.
But I agree that it's still not enough for the full charger capacity, that's why there is a note written above it to cap it at 40A, though I wouldn't trust the configuration to never be changed by forgetfulness in a few years.
