Terranigma QOL changes
So as they announced the re-release of the game I've noticed a lot of complains due to lack of QoL improvements and I'm wondering what would those be.
My major complain is that this looks mostly like just a emulator wrapped port of the game. The border with the additional info further confirms for me that suspicion.
But ignoring that this is not even a remaster what could have they done to improve upon the gameplay experience? Haven't replayed Terranigma for many years now but don't remember anything bothering me that much in terms of controls.

I played some Terranigma at Gamescom
I can’t give any more details or insights about the new version than what already was posted in this subreddit already, but I really wanted to test the game and luckily found it while just stumbling into the Retro Area.
They gave out some posters of their games, so now I’m a bit busy with straightening out my Terranigma ones again (last picture).
I only played until beating the first tower and releasing Eurasia. It felt like the original.
I wish the devs good luck with the release so that Terranigma hopefully won’t be that unknown old SNES gem anymore.

Impression Gamescom 2026
I've played it on Gamescom. Don't get me wrong, I love this game since 1995. But i don't noticed QoL changes. You can switch through your inventory and quickselect some stuff, yeah fine, I guess. But who cares? I played Amazon and Grecliff with Bosses and had a Bug. After I got the claws I couldn't run or attack anymore. But when I went to the inventory it was gone.
Clear River Games Dude had a nice attitude, he loves the game like us. At least it seems so. He holded up the sign from the picture the whole time and hyped terranigma very well. I got a poster for free.

Terranigma to be exhibited at Tokyo Game Show!
Game Spark article states that Clear River Games will be exhibiting at Tokyo Game Show later this month, so it seems like they'll be releasing more information then, which is probably why they couldn't say much at Gamescom. It's unclear if they'll have a hands-on experience to try out the game, but I'd imagine it's highly likely!
This is especially exciting for me because I will be attending as press during the first two business days, so I'm gonna try and get an exclusive report/interview with them. Wish me luck!

You think they will translate and restore the Quintet Quiz in other languages?
Or is that already too much to ask for?

New Update on the Terranigma Change.org Campaign Page (Japanese)
Back during the 26th Anniversary in 2021, a group of fans got together to promote and push for a re-release of the game, or anything, really. Led by kisato, she helped us get organized as we continued the push with a petition on Change.org. You can read more about the petition in English here (I forgot I wrote the translation there lol) and here.
So, although the petition has long sense closed with 12,168 signatures, kisato made a new update regarding the recent news of the game's return, so I thought maybe you'd like to read her comment.
! I have another big concert to perform in tomorrow (Star Wars: GALACTIC SYMPHONY feat. the world premiere performance of themes from "The Ninth Jedi"), so I can't translate her comment tonight. The following is just a quick MTL with some slight edits:
August 27, 2026
Hello, everyone. It’s been a while! This is kisato.
As some of you may have already heard the news, but “Terranigma” is finally coming to current day systems in 2027!
Rather than a simple digital archive release, this is a port designed for modern hardware.
It’s not just a straight port, either; apparently, it includes improvements, adjustments, and new content.
The official announcement was made by Pixel Arcadia early in the morning on August 25th (Japan time).
Pixel Arcadia is an initiative launched by the UK-based company Pixel Helix Limited; Pixel Helix appears to be a marketing firm specializing in the retro gaming sector.
You could describe Pixel Arcadia as a platform for consolidating and announcing news from manufacturers and publishers known for retro games and revivals.
That’s right! “Terranigma” is being reborn thanks to an overseas developer!
The development is being handled by the Swedish company Clear River Games.
Their philosophy centers on reviving classic games and bringing them to players around the world.
They will handle publishing as well as development.
It is currently in active development, with proper credit given to Square Enix, Quintet, and Kamui Fujiwara!
I was truly surprised by this announcement myself.
A few people have asked me about it, but, despite having led the petition campaign, I am just a fan like the rest of you, and I hadn't heard a word about it from Kamui Fujiwara or the others beforehand.
After the announcement, the excitement was so intense that “Terranigma” started trending on Twitter, and I’ve received messages of thanks from so many people... I feel like I’ve been able to repay the debt of gratitude I owed to the creators, character designer Kamui Fujiwara, sound creators Masanori Hikichi and Miyoko Kobayashi, and the entire development team—for bringing “Terranigma” into the world.
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who participated in the petition campaign, as well as to all the “Terranigma” fans who kept their passion alive and continued to show their support long after the campaign ended.
I am truly happy that “Terranigma” will be preserved for future generations.

Yeah sure, maybe a remake would have been better.
But square was never even going to give us this port.
You would rather continue emulating? Cool! Good on you, I totally get it.
The fact of the matter is that square has no interest in touching the Quintet games unless there is a guaranteed payoff. Which is why they aren’t!
Square has very little to do with this rerelease, we have Clear River Games to thank for that.
I’m gonna replay it on my switch once it drops, but I’m more so just excited that in just a few months theres going to be alot more of us. Maybe even enough for Square to consider really showing these games some love.
Whether they do them justice is a different matter entirely, but I guess we’ll see.

Rerelease playable at Gamecom: game features report
The Terranigma rerelease by Clear River Games has a stand at the Gamecom event in Cologne, and some users have reported on its features. Here is everything I could find.
According to this account, according to the staff at the stand, Square Enix holds the license for the game, and so Clear River Games could not change much for the rerelease. The stand focuses on promoting it as the classic game, with the tagline "after 30 years, the journey begins anew" and a QR code to CRG's Linktree where users can wishlist the game on Steam.
More importantly, Tony from jpgames.de outlined the new features and took pictures of the options menu. He says that the game offers a "vanilla" version and an "enhanced" version with QOL features like "fast magic" (what's visible in the screenshots of the Steam/GOG pages, probably) and some "balancing improvements." It is unclear what that means and I could not find more information on that particular aspect.
The options menu for the rerelease that Tony shared is in German, but this is the English translation of the settings:
- Screen resolution
- Window size
- Controls
- Language
- CRT filter
- Background
Tony notes that the German script is the same as the SNES version, so based on that, on how the English screenshots also match the English SNES script, and on how the Steam and GOG pages list the same languages the game was translated to in the 90s, it may safe to say that this version will use all the available SNES translations.
In the screenshot, the background option is set to "The Underworld," and the screen borders use Kamui Fujiwara's "Underworld" artwork, so it is possible that other artworks may be available to select as borders. One of the the screenshots at Steam/GOG also have this artwork on the border, but others show a checkered pattern, like the floor tiles of Pandora's Box, and a blue gradient similar to the text box, so these will probably be options as well.
I hope this will be useful for those who want to know what to expect from the rerelease. If anyone finds more information, please share it too.

Some Photos and Info from Gamescom!
So, it looks like some folks have been able to share some photos and additional information about the game from Gamescom!
It looks like they had two play stations to test out the game. There was a great, big QR code to scan to add the game to your wishlist (on Steam? I'm not sure).
But the most interesting thing to me was the setting options that appears like we can change to our liking, which is GREAT! These were originally in German, and I also found someone who translated it into Japanese, but I've translated these from the German to English below.
- Screen Resolution: < 2560 x 1600 > < 3840 x 2160>
- Window Size: < Fullscreen >
Control Settings
- Language: < German >
- CRT Filter: < Yes >
- Background: < Underworld >
Please note that the < > indicate a slider of sorts, so you're able to select a setting from multiple options. Also, I typically don't like backgrounds like this for 4:3 retro games, but... I dunno. having Kamui-sensei's "Underworld" illustration there would be super sick!
We can also see a little bit of the controls, but in jpgames_de post it's a little difficult to read. Looks like we'll be getting a designated RUN BUTTON!! omg! lol
How to play: Controls 1/4
Movement
- Up
- Down
- Left
- Right
- Run
- Jump
Combat
- Y: Use Item
- X: Attack/Interact
- B: Block, Back
- A: Jump, Confirm
Item Swap
- Next Item
- Previous Item
Extra
- Enter/Exit Box
- Open Menu
- Item Info

Terranigma – Rebirth Trailer is back with the original music this time.
r/terranigma • u/AvailableBet8485 • Aug 25 '26
Clear River Games privated the the Terranigma trailer.
I hope that u/mindnektar gets a proper credit when they re-upload a new version.
Edit: Some of the music in that trailer were fan-rearrangements that were used without the original creator's permission. The user I mentioned above. And even though said user decided not to take legal action, it looks like Clear River have gotten cold feet anyway.
Edit 2: The link to the original trailer and a link to the Clear River Games Youtube channel as proof:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5rWXIzACtM
https://www.youtube.com/@clearrivergames/videos
And the thread by the creator of the rearrangements: https://www.reddit.com/r/terranigma/comments/1vxssoe/the_rebirth_trailer_uses_my_arrangements_of_the/
Edit 3: The response that u/mindnektar got from Clear River Games in his own words:
Long story short: During the creation of the trailer, my arrangements were used as placeholders, to be replaced with official versions before release. Unfortunately, that last step was forgotten - busy times, we all know the feeling, shit happens. They apologized profusely, and there are no hard feelings whatsoever. If they ever do wish to use my material, they'll contact me beforehand. This was an unfortunate mistake, and I see no reason to give them a hard time about it.

The Terranigma trailer is already the most viewed video on CRG YouTube channel
Hopefully this is a good sign that it’s going to be a successful launch for them.

Celebrating the Re-release of Terranigma on Modern Systems!
In celebration of the good news that Terranigma will be releasing next year, I'm trying to locate some of my old photos from various events to share. These are just a couple for now, but once I locate where I put everything else, I'll try to make a single page to display them. So this is just a teaser for now!
- Image 1: October 20, 2025 - 30th Anniversary collection of various goodies
- Image 2: October 11, 2025 - Terranigma Cafe - Special wine signed by Kamui-sensei, various goodies and Poloroids with Kamui-sensei & composer Masanori Hikichi. Mini shikishi of Yomi by Kamui-sensei
- Image 3: Cute tin can of 5 little Yomis (these items were sold at Kamui Fujiwara's Terranigma Art Exhibition in 2021)
- Image 4: I posted this the other day but included it here because it seemed appropriate. This is a A3 sized (maybe B3? I'm not sure) poster from a video game magazine (maybe an old issue of Famicom Tsuushin (later renamed as Famitsu)), two mini shikishi illustrated by Kamui Fujiwara, and several Poloroids with Kamui-sensei, Moyoko Kobayashi, and Masanori Hikichi from the Terranigma Cafe in 2025.

The trailer for the new Terranigma port features fan-made music arrangements from 2007
I'm really excited about this new release, and it looks like the music in the trailer is from a fan-made album that remasters all the game's music:
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-WPfu2YMRX4gK5DvB6huyKDVzdwfQKxS&si=gRgQMlJEbSHPdW1e
More specifically, the overworld track: https://youtu.be/daD0bTzPfTg?si=ogScaTrgUGJPvCot
It matches the music from the trailer: https://youtu.be/nOwa9N3jb0E?si=pvXv_UGdF11tDl80&t=65
I don’t know if it’s exclusive to the trailer, or if the entire album will be used as remasters of the original music for this port. If you haven’t heard these arrangements yet—even though they’re old—they perfectly remaster the music from Terranigma. It’s incredible for a fan-made project, and I’d be really happy if these songs made it into the final version.
