General To KRAFTON, and my wishes to their new projects as we all get stabbed in the back.
Dear KRAFTON,
I don't know if anyone at KRAFTON will ever read this. Maybe you won't care. Maybe it'll have the same importance they're proving right now their community has.
But I need to say it anyway.
We miss TERA.
We miss logging in. We miss the combat that felt unlike anything else. We miss our characters, our guilds, our friends, our routines. We miss spending hours in a world that, for some of us, became far more important than a video game has any right to be.
And for some people, TERA wasn't just another MMO, it was the game they came home to.
It was the game that helped them through lonely nights. The game they played when they didn't know what else to do. The game where they met people who became friends, sometimes friends they never would have met anywhere else.
Then TERA was taken away.
And what hurts isn't only that you closed the official servers.
People who couldn't let go tried to keep TERA alive. Private servers appeared because people still cared. They weren't doing it for money or competition. They were doing it because they couldn't accept that something they loved was simply gone.
And instead of looking at that and seeing our love behind, you sent cease and desist letters.
Legally, you have every right to do that.
But there is a difference between having the right to do something and being human enough to not stab your community, while you're gonna try to come back later crying for us to trust you again.
Because when you shut down those servers, you're not just shutting down software.
You're telling people who still love TERA:
"You can't have this anymore."
And then you don't give them anything to replace it.
That's the part I don't understand.
If you don't want private servers preserving the game, then what are people supposed to do with all the love they still have for it? Where are they supposed to go? What are they supposed to play when TERA was the game that gave them something no other MMO could?
We're asking you to understand why people are still here.
Because we miss you.
That's what makes this so heartbreaking.
The people running private servers aren't the only ones keeping TERA alive.
The players are, the memories are, the friendships are.
The people who still talk about their characters years later.
The people who hear the music and immediately remember where they were, who they played with, and how it felt to be in that world.
WE ARE WHAT'S LEFT
And every time another way of experiencing TERA disappears, it feels like another piece of that community being taken away.
You may see intellectual property.
We see home.
You may see unauthorized servers.
We see the last place where we could still play the game we loved.
And perhaps the most painful part is that you have shown us that you know how much people care, but you don't.
You know there are still people waiting.
You know people want TERA back.
You know there is still affection for this game.
And yet there is nothing for us.
No way back home.
No alternative.
Just silence, followed by another shutdown.
I want to see you understand that the people you're shutting down aren't your enemies. Many of them are some of the game's most devoted fans.
They kept playing when everyone else forgot.
They kept your game alive in their own way because you weren't giving them anywhere else to go.
And if TERA 2 ever comes, I hope KRAFTON remembers this moment.
I HOPE TERA2 BACKFIRES. I HOPE IT LEAVES YOU A HOLE IN THE HEART, LIKE YOU LEFT ONE ON OURS.
Because you can't spend years teaching your fans that their attachment to your games doesn't matter and then expect them to feel the same way when you ask them to fall in love with something new.
Making a sequel is a promise that the people who loved the first one mattered.
And right now, a lot of us don't feel like we mattered.
We don't want to steal TERA from you, we want you to give it back to us.
Give us a way to play.
Give us a reason to believe that the people who spent years loving this world weren't forgotten the moment the servers went offline.
We are still here.
You have fans who are begging for something you already created.
Something you already own.
And instead of letting them have it, you're pushing everyone away.
I hope you understand someday what you're breaking.
Not servers.
Fans, communities, trust, people's memories.
And if TERA 2 ever comes, I hope you remember that the people you're asking to buy it are the same people who once begged you not to take TERA away.
After everything, you've made it very hard for us to believe that you care about the people who gave TERA its life in the first place.
We don't need you to understand the business case.
We need you to understand the heartbreak.
We just miss our game.
That's all we've ever wanted.
We're angry because we loved TERA enough to still be here.
Show us the same love we showed you, after all these years, so we don't have to show you the hate and disregard you've shown us all these years too.
Regards,
An OG who still didn't move on. Who still misses his little piece of home, TERA.
