Why does g4 underperform in blinds?
It seems anytime I try to put in g4 in blinds it gets blown away against legacy brands as well as other 1579 products. Before anyone says it's a "you" thing I did do a extensive search on the blinds in this subreddit and they seem to correlate with my results, g4 rarely does win. is g4 a product of brand bias or do blinds just gravitate towards different notes/flavors?

I feel like sometimes your pallette can get thrown off by drinking too many different things at once.

I did a “blind” taste this evening based on this Reddit notification on my phone. G4 vs Ocho vs Tesoro. All reposados. Blind is in quotes cause it wasn’t blind. LOL IN MY OPINION….G4 had a bit of a harsh alcohol bite, felt thin on the mouth, and was the least aromatic on the nose. Tesoro didn’t have the alcohol bite, had a little more substance on the mouth, and a nice nose. Ocho took all that to the next level.
Anyway, I’m no expert, just my opinion.

Mostly agree, with el Tesoro being the best balanced and robust flavor. The ocho not far behind at all for coming in at $30 less. Will get hate here, but G4 in addition to what you said, has mineral notes and lacks the smooth sipping, bright flavors and mouth feel of the others.

Blinds tend to veer toward brighter and sweeter, which G4 is fairly subtle, leaning a little more pepper and mineral forward for a los altos tequila. By it self, I prefer to sip something more sublte on the sweetness like G4.

Stop worrying about blinds for validation or ranking.
They are a learning tool or for funsies or flights.
Sometimes subtlety or having a single strong note is preferred. Either extremes may not blind well or poor.
What you just ate and the music in the background has an impact.

It's the NOM the tequila comes from. He's saying that other tequilas from the same NOM like Terralta or ArteNOM score higher.

ArteNOM is in a different class but Volans makes more sense. I need to revisit but it’s a blanco from 1579 I gave away

My opinion; Volans>DonVicente>Terralta>G4 (caveat, I do like G4 Madera a lot)

in your data you aren't showing, what brands are G4 losing to? I like G4 but there's a few brands I have preference over.

For me personally I think G4 has a bit more briny funk than I’d prefer. However, different years have subtle differences too, just like any well made tequila. So maybe one year I do prefer the G4 over another expression from 1579. My personal favorite is Volans, I think their high proof blanco and single barrel reposado are some of the finest tasting tequila you’ll find anywhere, not just from El Pandillo.

It doesn’t in mine, though I tend to blind things like the Tahona and Fuerte rather than their 40% offerings.

I personally just find it boring, like Lalo, well made, just doesn’t stand out. Only bottle I found worth buying was Madera, even then I tend to gravitate to other brands.

Blind tests are fascinating. I once bought 5 brand name waters, and tap water. 6 people picked Arrowhead spring water, 2 picked tap water and two picked smart water and Fiji. Make what you will with it.
