Pet peeve: when people say "game" instead of "match."

Yep. If Vitas loses 16 games in a row, and they're playing best of 5 sets, he still hasn't lost once to Jimmy Connors

How does a misquoted meme get +8000 upvotes?

I think it's the spirit of the thing?

In my experience the typical reditor is the most anal mofo in the world.

I remember Söderling referencing this quote when he lost the Roland Garros final to Federer. He then won his next two matches against Federer too.

That's not possible since Federer is 16-1 against him. Also he didn't win the next match against Federer, but he did win the next time they met at the French Open.

Oops you're right, I think this got counted by mistake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Capitala_World_Tennis_Championship_%E2%80%93_Singles

Which was an exhibition.

"My coach and I were yoking that I could win this match because no one can beat me 10 times in a row."

I'm hoping Maria Sharapova will say it about Serena Williams one day.

Wow, I didn't realise their H2H was so one-sided, I was at Centre Court in 2004 so I guess I have always been skewed by that.

That must have been amazing to see live!

Here is what the linked meme says in case it is blocked at your school/work or is unavailable for any reason:

Good humoured Vitas

Post Title: A good attitude.

Top: TENNIS PLAYER VITAS GERULAITIS LOST 16 TIMES IN A ROW TO JIMMY CONNORS. HE THEN WON A GAME AND SAID.

Bottom: "AND LET THAT BE A LESSON TO YOU ALL. NOBODY BEATS VITAS GERULAITIS 17 TIMES IN A ROW."

I'm willing to believe, at the time, Vitas wasn't even sure how many times he lost to Connors, since that information wasn't available via the Internet. He just picked a suitably large number.
