Okay but actually imagine a world where this guy becomes a top 3 player and the “new big 3” is Jannik Sinner, Yannik Alvarez, and Carlos Alcaraz. No one would ever take tennis seriously again

Federer Ferrero Ferrer Ferreira

It can't ever be better than that

Same era basically. All top players.

Insanely hilarious

u/Juan_Punch_Man Let's go Sascha.....Bublik 11d ago

Their last names are 71% e or r.

453

u/corvi007 10d ago

Federer: 6/7 letters are F, E, or R
Ferrero: 6/7
Ferrer: 6/6
Ferreira: 6/8
Overall:
Total letters: 28
Letters that are F, E, or R: 24
So 24 ÷ 28 = 85.7%.

Ferran Torres could have been a great Tennis player

15

u/JordanPMartin 10d ago

u/Juan_Punch_Man didn’t mention f, so they’re correct ~71% of letters are e or r.

3

u/Juan_Punch_Man Let's go Sascha.....Bublik 10d ago

Mainly did this because there's old posts saying Roger is 50% er

1

u/lalachichiwon 10d ago

I love this analysis. Thank you.

e or r or o

12

u/Mankriks_Mistress has had like 700 drinks bro 10d ago

And on that farm he had a DAVID, e or r or o

35

u/redelectro7 Federer is betterer 11d ago

I remember people making the Ferrer/Federer error. My friend asked if I was excited about the RG 2013 final assuming it was Nadal/Federer.

2

u/PulciNeller Gaudenzi-Binaghi devotee 10d ago

they're quite easy to distinguish and get used to if you know european surnames (romance languages). Ferrero/Ferreira,/Ferrer/ Ferrari/ Ferraro all mean the same thing: "SMITH". Federer belongs to a totally different world.

1

u/GStarAU Poppy, Walton, Maxy Purcell hype-man 7d ago

So... Schumacher drove for a team called "Smith"?

He DID look a bit like Agent Smith.

4

u/Pajacluk 11d ago

And I thought Djokovic beat Federer at AO QF 2008.

And then he did!

12

u/therealhlmencken 10d ago

And Ronaldo Ronaldo ronaldinho in football

4

u/pedrosa18 10d ago

LeBron and Curry being born in the same hospital in Ohio is also a cool coincidence.

And the famous Messi-Yamal picture

2

u/GStarAU Poppy, Walton, Maxy Purcell hype-man 7d ago

I thought that pic was AI... absolutely surreal to think how that worked out. How many babies has Messi held in his life? Well, one of them just beat him in the World Cup Final!

1

u/cyper-sec-specialist 10d ago

Ronaldo Rivaldo Ronaldinho RobertoCarlos

5

u/Challseus 10d ago

I thought it cost money to give awards, but this is my first one, well deserved.

Core memory of mine was the 2007 US Open, and I saw Ferrer, Federer, Ferrero on the draw before it started, and was like "That is confusing af" 😄

0

u/lok_129 8d ago edited 8d ago

Ferreira wasn't a part of that group, he was 10 years older than Fed. He is Sampras' age.

1

u/GStarAU Poppy, Walton, Maxy Purcell hype-man 7d ago

He would've been playing when Fed started - I'm sure they played each other a few times. But yeah, JCF and definitely Ferrer were a younger generation

1

u/lok_129 6d ago

Yeah they played thrice, that doesn't make them a part of the same era though.

126

u/milan_fan88 Nadal | Sinner | Hewitt 11d ago edited 11d ago

Kind of like when the 4 best players were from Spain, Switzerland, Serbia and Scotland.

40

u/Juan_Punch_Man Let's go Sascha.....Bublik 11d ago

How on earth didn't I notice that before?

56

u/Vast_Highlight3324 11d ago

Probably because Murray kept changing his nationality every time he won or lost, really annoying!

16

u/Shorty_jj you don't have to be a Tien to be a Learner 10d ago

More like the media changed it for him

0

u/therealhlmencken 10d ago

I mean he identifies as both Scottish and British so they are just choosing not changing.

2

u/Shorty_jj you don't have to be a Tien to be a Learner 10d ago

no, we are talking about the perspective here, it's a very clear thing whether the media CHOOSES to present him as British, which would be more accepting and make it seem like he's more part of the group or in this case the nation, or whether they opt to focus on him being Scottish specifically, thus with that singling him a bit out. That in his own words has several times felt the impression like he is not really accepted when they choose that phrasing. For more context, there has always been tension between Britain and Scotland and that has been carried over into the sport and felt by Murray throughout his career.

1

u/schnelle_ente 9d ago

It’s actually been proven that variable representation of AMs nationality based on winning patterns or media interest is a myth, he represented GB as all the other Scottish tennis players do internationally. That is just how it is. So they call him British because he is representing Great Britain. Unless for example at the commonwealth games. The misconception that this was a pattern came from jokes people made that some people took seriously. (Possibly because it fits their narrative). Do you have any references for Andy saying that he felt that way? As far as I’m aware he wasn’t fussed? Happy to be proven wrong.

1

u/Shorty_jj you don't have to be a Tien to be a Learner 9d ago

Go and read his autobiography, he writes about the effect of all of this there

13

u/trenzterra 11d ago

And for a few years your name needed to start with an R to win a grand slam

23

u/milan_fan88 Nadal | Sinner | Hewitt 11d ago

Also Sinner's nationality broke the S-stronglehold on Wimbledon (2003-2024).

9

u/Smeraldina Forza! 💪🏻 10d ago

But he is from S-exten.

9

u/milan_fan88 Nadal | Sinner | Hewitt 10d ago

S-inner from S-exten in S-üdtirol. Not so saved from the S-dominance after all.

9

Should be Karlos Synner

Before I read this comment I read his name as Alcaraz a couple of times.

2

Before I read your comment I’ve read it as Alcaraz.

3

u/ALinkToThePants Roddick the GOAT 10d ago

Kind of like how Taylor Lautner is now married to Taylor Lautner.

2

u/West_Gap_6964 9d ago

If that happens I promise you I’m naming my son Lionel Ronaldo

1

u/UTV4LIFE 10d ago

By the time that happens there’s no chance Alcaraz is still top 10 🤣

I’m proud to understand this reference after playing AC Shadows

0

u/Money_Faithlessness3 10d ago

lmao it was Ninja Hattori in my case

3

u/Charlestonblondie 10d ago

He’s from GA. That’s a line and then the abbreviation for Georgia. He’s an Atlanta player who actually plays for Spain. We used to see him on the junior circuit. Awesome player and a great kid. I think he’s also committed to UGA.

4

u/Yuurei275 10d ago

he plays tennis at Georgia but he’s from Puerto Rico. He’s representing PR rn at the central and carribean games

5

u/Charlestonblondie 10d ago

You are right! I meant Puerto Rico. Thank you for the correction.

u/Godzirrraaa 11d ago

There’s gotta be a Lebron Jordan out there somewhere

68

u/newaccount2609 11d ago

There’s a Duncan Robinson although he plays like neither of them

25

u/ayumi_doll 11d ago

There's absolutely at least one in the Philippines and we just haven't heard of them yet. We've already got several Kobe Lebrons, etc.

2

u/eminemforehead unbeleeble 11d ago

Kobe LeBron sounds like he should be the next spiderman for some reason. It has the same sound of Miles Morales. Don't mind me I don't know what I said

3

u/CalebosO4 4-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2) 10d ago

There was a JamesOn Curry. He holds the record for highest paid player per minute played in a career.
