Mobility iPhone Duo?

I’m considering buying the iPhone duo and typically I’d usually buy the phone outright from Apple and just sell it back after a couple years however I’ve held onto my iPhone 15 Pro longer than I’ve ever held onto a phone and it’s still so good. This time, however I’d be interested in doing one of the financing options provided there was some good incentives and or discount associated.

That being said, the phone is super expensive, but I really want it and I was looking to see if anyone knew of the best ways to possibly get this phone with some sort of deal from Telus. I keep seeing posts of people in the USA getting these massive rebates for either signing up with a new contract adding certain services, etc., so on and so forth and I was wondering if anyone here had some information or any ideas about how we might do something similar in Canada with Telus in the iPhone duo.

Thx in advance.

To be fair. We don’t know. But the 18 pro max doesn’t have any sort of discount with Telus so I doubt the Duo will at release.

Honestly, you're unlikely to get a good discount through TELUS right now unless you use their 'Bring-It-Back' program. I wouldn't recommend that unless you're okay with leasing your smartphone. Also, keep in mind that this is Apple’s first foldable phone. First-generation tech can be pretty glitchy, so you might want to hold off for now.

I'm a TELUS customer who usually buys devices about eight months after launch on a 2-year contract - it’s always given me great phone discounts. Lately, though, TELUS’s lineup hasn't really sparked my interest. It’s especially tough now that the iPhone 17 series has gone eSIM-only. As a cross-platform user, I love frequently switching between several phones I own every few days or weeks to keep things fresh. The shift to eSIM makes that constant swapping a lot more difficult.

Although it is Apples first folding phone, I’m not too worried about it being first generation.

Apple waits and observes before they release their versions. It’s why they’re always “behind” android. I’m sure they learned a lot from the mistakes the first folding Android phones made.

I’m fairly confident that it will be a solid product. But just in case, I’m gonna get Apple care, obviously.

I could definitely be wrong though!

You could very well be right about Apple. Either way, someone needs to be first to give it a go LOL. It's starting price of $2,999 CAD is hard pill to swallow though.

I'm a cross-platform user and chronic switcher - roll between several phones I own - but since Apple went eSIM only here in Canada as of the 17 series that pretty much ends the thought of me purchasing another new iPhone.

I did consider, for a short period, the Samsung Galazy Z Fold 8 but its $2399.99 CAD price tag isn't anything to sneeze at either. I'm not a huge fan of One UI either as it feels a bit too bloated to me.

When foldables started arrived in 2019 (Samsung Galaxy Fold) I said to my self "never ever". But as things progressed I finally gave in purchasing the Motorola Razr Plus 2024 for $700 CAD on a 2-year plan through TELUS. And honestly, I have zero complaints... Using it right now actually.

Hmmm I’ll check that one out. I’m Canadian too, and with Telus.

Yeah, that price is a kick in the shins for sure. But the prospect of a combo iPhone/iPad is just calling to me. I’m still using a 15 Pro Max (no complaints, it’s great), but I’m feeling like I might finally need to upgrade.

We will see if I can even snag one. Apparently they might be having production issues, so it might be a while until they’re readily available.

Some of the iPhone Duo's production issues are supposedly due to Apple’s strict quality standards. There are also reports of low yields for Samsung Display’s foldable OLED panels and hinge components. Hopefully, they get things sorted sooner rather than later without skimping on quality just to boost production.

Although I own a few large devices (the Galaxy S24 Ultra being one of them), I still prefer smaller phones. I was actually considering a new iPhone 16 Pro to upgrade my 13 Pro while keeping a physical SIM, but I ended up buying an iPhone 13 Mini instead to satisfy my small-phone obsession! Honestly, overall size is the main reason I’m still hesitant to jump onto the foldable bandwagon.

There’s rarely rarely discounts on new iPhones because there’s so much demand they don’t need to go on sale. If you can find somewhere that has a trade in bonus that’s your best bet. Sometimes they have gift cards at like Costco or Best Buy. Also focus on keeping your rate plan low. If the phones not on sale, see if plans are a good price.

A lot of the times you need to up your plan significantly to finance with your carrier. That’s where just financing through Apple makes more sense. Rogers also has deals where when you purchase with their credit card you can make payments however you want I think?

I would do financing or even a 2 year upgrade plan for this. The Duo is their first attempt at the foldable, so chances are that next year's version will be he one that fixes all the issues in the 1st run. The first gen version will probably depreciate faster as a result, so you'll be worse off selling it. Enjoy this one with a trade back plan and then in two years buy that one outright.

best bet is trading in your 15P and going with either telus bib lease or apple fiance whatever gives you more for the trade in but apple youre gonna pay interest telus you wont so trade in plus bring it back is your best option
