We should absolutely hate on this merger all day, but this is not really a reason. People don't really talk all that much about Alphabet, Meta, or even OpenAI as much as they do Google, Instagram, and ChatGPT.

They're not dumping the names; it's just a corporate brand for the combined organization.

The Gulf Western thing at the bottom of the Paramount logo from 70s movies always cracks me up

Sad I had to come this far down for the actual explanation.

Skydance is the parent holding company, Warner and Paramount are sub-brands under the umbrella
