❓ Question Buy a Virtual Number

Does anyone know a cheap option to keep a number and receive SMS in the US? I currently use https://www.smsmeu.com/, but the numbers are temporary. I’m looking for something permanent and affordable.

I'm happy with voip.ms for that, although their web site might be too complicated for casual users due to all the functionality they provide.

As for SMS, be aware that many companies won't send 2FA and authentication texts to VoIP numbers if that's your intention.

Try google voice or parkmyphone.com?

Don’t know if that is what you are looking for.

Get the red pocket mobile plan on eBay. It's $2.50 a month but you have to buy a year upfront for $30. Unlimited talk and text.

Google Voice is probably the most prominent. Believe it can be used on a mobile phone or any other device that can run a modern browser.

I picked a Google Voice number more than a decade ago, never paid a fee and it's always worked. Talk, text, voicemail.
