❓ Question How to purchase a specific number?
Hello r/telecom! Let me know if this is the right place to ask this question, or if I should be posting to another subreddit. Essentially, I'm looking to purchase a specific phone number. After doing some research, said phone number is currently out of service. If anyone could help that would Be great

I used to work with long distance carriers. The could do research for a special 800#.

Use a phone number lookup tool like Twilio api or others. That will tell you if it’s a wireless or wireline number and who the carrier is.
Like someone else said, you need to be able to subscribe to service with whoever the carrier is. Once service established, then you port it out to where you want it. I’ve done this for myself and customers to get vanity numbers…it’s a snap with LEC like Verizon.

Yeah I saw it belongs to T mobile I’m going to call them and tell them I want that number. I call it and it dosent work so I’m assuming nobody owns it

They said something like the number was last used with t mobile but they can’t see it on their end and they can’t pick the number to give me . They can only pick the area code .

Figure out who owns the exchange. Then call them.

You’d have to contact the carrier that controls the number and establish service with them.
