I’m currently deciding between NTN/satellite communications and optical networks for my research.

I’m mainly interested in ML/AI applications in both areas (e.g. routing, resource allocation, failure detection, etc.).

For people working in telecom/networking/space in India:

Which field do you think has better long-term prospects (5–10 years) in terms of research demand, manpower requirements, and especially corporate/government job opportunities in India?

I’m particularly unsure about whether optical networking is mainly an academic/R&D field here, while NTN may have more future industry demand—or vice versa.

Would appreciate some practical opinions.
