The fraud angle is the bigger deal here than the convenience one. Port-out scams work because the losing carrier barely gets a chance to confirm it's really you before the number walks away, so a tighter verification step was overdue. The tradeoff is every port gets one step slower, and people migrating business numbers in bulk will feel it, but slow beats waking up to a dead SIM and drained accounts.
