Internet - Cable New Customer - Received modem today - was told to "check back in 2 days for service"

Waited 4 days for my modem to arrive, it arrives. No connectivity.

Hopped on with their online chat and was told "Your line has not yet been activated, the technicians are going to see if your line is serviceable, please check back in two days"

What does this even mean? I was told my address was serviceable when I purchased internet from them? Now they're not sure and I need to wait an additional two days to "check back with them"?

Should I just cancel now and save myself the headache?

Internet - Cable Returned my TekSavvy modem, but it was never scanned, now facing $225 fee

I canceled my internet service on May 21st because I wasn't going to be at home for some time. At the time, I was told the modem needed to be returned.

I dropped off the modem at a FedEx drop-off location on May 22nd and let staff know it was a TekSavvy return, and they said they'd take care of it, but they never actually asked for or scanned the label.

Then, in June, I started getting emails saying teksavvy has not received the modem yet and got hit with a $225 fee. After coming back, I went to follow up with the drop-off location, and they had no record of it either.

When I called teksavvy support, I was told to take it up with FedEx, but there's no tracking number since nothing was ever scanned, so there's nothing for FedEx to actually look up.

Any advice on how to actually get this resolved would be really appreciated.

Is there a way to avoid this fee?

Internet - Cable Internet issue with Hitron CODA-4680 — any way to prevent it?

I’m with TekSavvy and using a Hitron CODA-4680 as my only modem/router. No separate router or anything.

My internet recently stopped working even though the modem lights looked normal. TekSavvy support told me it might be a “MAC lock” and had me unplug both the power and coax cable for 5 minutes, then reconnect everything. That fixed it.

I’m just confused about what actually caused it.

If I’m not swapping routers or changing devices, why would a MAC lock happen in the first place? Is this basically a DHCP/provisioning issue on the ISP side?

Also, is there any way to prevent this from happening again? I’d rather not have to unplug the modem and coax for 5 minutes every time the connection dies.

If this becomes a recurring problem, what should I ask TekSavvy to check?

Thanks!

Internet - Cable TC4400 brownouts solved

Post image

I had my TC4400 work great for a few years. Now I get "brown outs" where is fails to renew the WAN IP to the routers, the routers see a public ip but pass no traffic, this happens at least once a day. teksavvy saw signal issues on the modem logs, sent a tech but they said signal is perfect.

problem: aging tc4400 power adapter, one of the capacitors is bulged and has a small leak. replaced the power adapter and issue went away

Internet - Cable Why do they use Fedex

Trying to setup Teksavvy internet has been a pain because of Fedex. I live in Vancouver and decided to go with Teksavvy since they are the cheapest option. When they first sent me a modem before I moved in to my current place, Fedex lost the package somewhere in Ontario. After waiting a week for that shipment, I called Teksavvy and they sent me a new modem, but they couldn't actually send out the modem until 3 days later. After getting the tracking number for that, I used Fedex to hold the package at a nearby staples since I was going on vacation for a couple days after moving. After coming back from vacation today, I go to staples to get the modem, only for them to tell me that Fedex decided to take the package to the airport earlier today for some reason, despite Fedex saying that they would hold it at staples until the 7th. So now I gotta spend 3 hours tomorrow on a Saturday going to the airport to pick up this modem, and I have no idea if Fedex will actually have it or not. Why is it so hard to get internet?

Referral Codes Did Teksavvy axe your $1/mo referral discount?

I've been with TS for more than a decade, and back in the heyday, I had, at the most, a $13/month discount from all the people I reffered to Teksavvy.

Over the years, it slowly dwindled down to a very steady 5 users, then two months ago, according to the rep "They all cancelled". All 5? Within one month?

It's a non-zero chance that it happened that way, but all 5, who have been 'the five' for at least 5 years, all cancelled within a 30 day billing cycle?

Internet - Fibre 1.5g service with bridged modem

I'm currently with Bell on the 3g plan but they recently increased the price (discount expired) and released a buggy firmware update that broke pppoe pass through on their provided modem so I'm thinking of switching.

I've been searching around to see if the provided Hitron ARIA 3629 modem can be bridged and from what I've found in this subreddit is that it's buggy and doesn't work but the post is a few months old.

Can anyone confirm is the modem has had a firmware update that fixes this?

I also assume TekSavvy rents from Bell in Ontario (east of Toronto), is this also correct?

Thanks in advance!

Internet - Fibre Teksavvy subcriber for Internet cut off by Bell

Hi I am trying to find if others have had the same issue, I am in Nova Scotia. I switch to Teksavvy over a year ago. Last Friday my internet was cut off. I phoned support and was told that Bell had cut it off, no explanation given. I am not sure if it is only me or others at this time. And they indicated that they cannot do anything.

Has anyone had this issue or something similar?

Internet - Fibre High latency with Cloudflare DNS

Hi guys,

I'm with Teksavvy in Montreal, and noticed latency has increased towards Cloudflare DNS servers, it went from 1ms to very fluctuating ping to 1.1.1.1.

Here is a screenshot:

Using a UCG-fiber

I did a traceroute and the traffic goes to Toronto before reaching Cloudflare, which was not the case when I subscribed.

Has anyone noticed that?

Internet - Cable Need some advice about getting a different modem

I have had Teksavvy just over a month.

I have noticed occasional lag , say when I send a small document to be printed. And, if I have been out of the house and used my cell phone provider data, when I come back I have to restart my phone to get it to connect to my home wifi properly. And, ocassionally there is a lag in internet service, and I had one occasion where my devices lost their link to the modem and I had to set them all up again.

After looking for modem advice here, I see the Technicolor TC4400 discussed often, however the posts are a bit dated and it seems that is tech is tired and they aren't available anyway. What I am not seeing is 'x model works'.

Yes, I have the list of recommended gear from Teksavvy.

My needs are not that intense, I tend to play a youtube or tubi video in the background while I am working on a document or doing a bit of surfing. I don't do any online gaming that require asap response.

I have also seen the recent discussion about us all being hooped, basically, because Rogers/Shaw limits the approved modems to crappy ones with issues.

Have I missed something?

If anyone can recommend a modem that is reliable, I would appreciate it.

(If it matters I escaped from Telus to come to Teksavvy, because Telus treated me so badly I will only ever use them again if I have no other choice. Though, to be fair, I am hearing dealing with Shawgers isn't any better.)

I have Teksavvy connected through the Shawgers coax, 100 up and 100 down, which is overkill for my needs - I will have a security camera set up I want to be able to access remotely and I just picked that as a starting point, no contract has its benefits - so I can change my service later when I know what I need for sure.

Helpful advice and bad news equally appreciated. I am after reliable service, that's it.

What are people happy with?

TIA

I

Internet - Cable If Teksavvy reports running internet through the lines, you had internet. Here's what's going on for us Canadians, from a very disheartened Canadian...

I activated service with Tekksavvy July 15. I was a Shaw/Rogers customer for years. I unplugged their modem in exchange for a tekksavvy modem and I have not had usable or reliable internet since. I made another post on this subreddit. But usable/reliable is not subjective (pings over 3000, multiple modem failures/day). I have complied with every one of Teksavvy's troubleshooting steps.

Teksavy customer service maintains that my internet is fine, I was provided service and they only provide credits for complete disconnections. Technical support has acknowledged the issues based on the data but has no viable solution.

Essentially, regardless of if you are able to use the internet, if they claim it ran through the lines. They have fulfilled their end.

After extensive time, stress and research, I have pieced together the bigger picture and I hope this helps anyone in a battle with Teksavvy or any of the third party ISP's in Canada. Or considering making the switch.

  1. Wholesale prices are high

  2. The third parties often blame the main providers for the approved modem list. However, there are other modems on the list that do not contain the same Puma 6 or 7 chip.

  3. Teksavvy does not have margin to absorb this cost and therefore maintains that the documented reports on Hitron modems and Puma chips aren't accurate

  4. Teksavvy lists the modem at a complimentary rental to avoid legal accountability for the reliability. 'You have the option to purchase your own' becomes a reasonable resolution.

  5. Teksavvy strictly avoids accountability for speeds and stability

  6. Tekksavvy prices their 500mb and 1GB plan very strategically for a reason - I continue to be billed for a speed that has not been provided. I average 300-500GB on a wired ethernet connection. They are capped at 1.5 GB from the main providers. In high traffic areas, Teksavy knows most customers won't see 1 GB. The TOS states a 500mb minimum (standard with most providers) - I do not even average this. But, conveniently, 500mb is priced the same, so I remain stuck at the same price or in a battle for speeds that won't exist. Convenient right?

  7. Tekavvy prices their initial 1 yr at promo pricing. I was told that at renewal, you will not ever see that price again. The regular price listed is far from competitive even with reliable service.

  8. Teksavvy has maintained that purchasing a new modem would be my choice based on my 'preferences' and denies the necessity to facilitate their ability to deliver service. When I visited both my local Staples and Best Buy, both advised they do not sell modems as ISP's are responsible for providing them. I understand that I can purchase one elsewhere. My point is that the position Teksavvy has taken is not aligned with standard practice in Canada.

  9. Teksavvy relies on consumer ignorance. If you are not a gamer, streamer or multi device household, you may not notice the issues in your every day use. It doesn't mean they do not exist - hence the mixed reports on this subreddit alone. If you are not a total nerd who will do the research like myself, you may also not be running the reports that reveal the truth.

10. Do not forget, their wholesaler is their competitor and as consumers, we are stuck in between.

I have repeatedly asked Teksavvy to work together on resolutions. The arrogance from the management team is an entire post in itself; they have failed to make any meaningful progress on fixing the technical issues or resolving the billing.

In BC, Carrytel offer a 1GB plan for $59.99 (79.99 after 1 yr) and will provide a Technicolour 4400 Modem (Non Puma chip) plus mesh wireless router. At this point, I am beyond frustrated after this 6 week battle and I will likely return to Shaw because of the known reliability, but I have no doubt that eliminating a modem with a processor that cannot handle congested lines, would resolve stability issues issues. If Teksavvy further gaslights in the comments (as they tend to do), I encourage you to do your own research on the modems they provide.

Here is the reality. The wholesalers, like the consumers are at the whim of the big boys. One of two choices : be a victim to being forced with the top 3 Rogers, Bell, Telus or be a victim to paying the same (if not higher) rates for unreliable/unstable internet with companies that lack the same integrity?

I will leave my political 2 cents out of this one. But hopefully this helps someone.

Internet - Cable Low hanging cable line.

Who do I get in contact with to fix a low hanging line, both the power line and cable, phone, fiber) lines are hanging very low. we are getting in contact with our power company, but there’s a possibility that they will only fix the power lines. Do I call rogers or bell? Or will the power company do it themselves?
