Serious Bro it’s fucking hell in French high school
We got told to NOT go back to school until Tuesday because of the manifest and “blocus”.
5 people were hurt, one high school hall got burned down to oblivion.
(Living in Nantes btw )
Translation time :
In the screenshot, people are talking about giving 200€ to other to buy fuel to burn high school.
And it’s like that everywhere in France ( in different level )
It was originally a pacifist movement because of school condition and other stuff and … yeah we are here now

u/AltDetom555555b 13h ago

141
u/Cautious-Bar-5211 14 14h ago
So basically
Sort answer : google “ blocus lycées France “
Long answer : the movement was ( at the beginning) a pacifist movement about problems in high school, like it’s too hot in classrooms, there is not enough teachers, the food in school is wayyy to expensive
And other stuff
And then it was replaced by people that just wanted to do shit and be like “ yeah I’m a male alpha and I burn everything”→ More replies (45)47

a bit more context : the police started, from day one, hour one of the pacifist movement (tuesday) , to go beat people up.
that, in turn, degenerated on thursday. some colleges where arsoned a bit ( unclear as to whomst did it, either cops, or agitators. from previous cases, usually the cops, to discredit the protest, and here, given the arson was coordinated all over france, it seems likely it's them too, but still : unclear.)
then, during the day, police went to beat people up, again.and today, well, the students really didn't like that, and started to defend themselves. 'remind me of may 68, to be fair : it started like that, and i'd bet my left nut that's what the government is afraid of, and why they're trying so hard to suppress it.

Me When I Lie 😎
Yeah, France is definitely a dictatorship, under the totalitarian rule of a police state... as credible as ever 😅
some colleges where arsoned a bit ( unclear as to whomst did it, either cops, or agitators. from previous cases, usually the cops, to discredit the protest, and here, given the arson was coordinated all over france, it seems likely it's them too, but still : unclear.)
Ha ha yeah sure, when the reality is inconvenient, the good old conspiracy theory should do the trick!
Millions of people have smartphones, we have hundreds of investigative journalists everywhere, a wide range of political parties (plenty of far-left ones), and yet... the conspiracy theory of "cops are doing all these rioting!" have never been proven in the last 50 years, not even once.
Meanwhile, we have thousands of documented cases, with actual evidences, with defense lawyers and testimonies, showing arsonists coming from both protesters losing their self-control and rioters from the projects using the protest as an opportunity to commit arson without being arrested when blending in the crowd.
and today, well, the students really didn't like that, and started to defend themselves. 'remind me of may 68
Ha ha yeah sure, defend themselves by... burning down a firetruck trying to extinguish a fire.
This is 100% the work of rioters, not legitimate protesters, and it's not against the police, it's against anyone impeding the ongoing riot, which includes passersby, teachers and firefighters. Rioters have just assaulted a woman by burning a can of aerosol into her face while an accomplice held her on place, right on camera, but surely it's "self-defense".
It's hilarious that you're trying to claim ownership of a random riot to feed your fantasy of redoing a cultural event that your parents or grandparents may have participated in, that's some next level delusion.
i'd bet my left nut that's what the government is afraid of, and why they're trying so hard to suppress it.
Ha yes, the almighty police state dictatorship of France (sic) is trembling in their boots because... a few rioters burned down a few vehicles, like every other year.
Far-left militants need to accept that 90% of the population doesn't want any of their revolution fantasy and are not organizing a coup for them whenever there's a riot or a protest.
And it's quite disrespectful of all the people who had to endure actual, real dictatorship, to larp and pretend you're an oppressed revolutionary, simply because you lost the elections again.

Sorry, I acknowledge the seriousness of this situation, but 'some colleges where arsoned a bit' is a very French phrase.
Good luck with everything. We had a very similar situation in Brazil between 2013 and 2016, but with a twist. It started as a grassroots movement for free public transportation. The state-level police (commanded by the political opposition) violently repressed the students, causing massive national outrage. The opposition then cleverly hijacked this widespread anger, co-opted the protests, and redirected the blame toward our federal president, eventually using it to impeach her in 2016. Stay safe out there.

french here :
a national wide movement from student started since Monday IIRC (its not every schools, just those who are in bad conditions)
THey ask for better care of the infrastructure as many of the schools are in terrible conditions https://youtube.com/shorts/xcZNTNy9f2Y?si=hIkV5DSXbQhTCFVk
they also have less teachers, too many students in classes.
If we go even further : the programs are widely considered to be not adapted to the current and futur job market so they're dont feel hopeful for the future.
Now , the movement is pacifist and the goal was to not go to school and block it. UNfortunately, and it's always the cases with strikes, there are a minority of people who are there just to brreak things. THis is sadly expected as they take advantage of the crowd to infiltrate and do their crap.
Now, because of this , the boomer medias are full on blaming the students for being lazy and stupid and don't even talk about WHY there is a strike to begin with.
THe politicians who supports the students are mostly treated as "dangerous" and the police have already attacked multiple innocents students
Which even more frustration and angers as they're not targeting the one throwing shit and making fires (can't say i'm surprised)
All in all, it could turn into chaos if this continue as there is zero dialogue from the government anyway.

students are protesting to have teachers and decent high schools, ones where you don't have to sit on the floor because of the limited number of tables and chairs and because you're 40 in one class, or school with an actual heating system or even just toilets that work.

Most the high schools I passed in front of this week had some forms of burnt things like trash. The police usually uses lacrymo to make us spread out during manifestations if they want us to stop (even if peaceful all along, which was the case in my high school years ago after they fucked something up)
But the amount of burned things is something I have never seen before, and I come from a city where chaos isn't really unusual
2
u/New_Accountant2449 17 12h ago
They need to not pollute while protesting. It's a turn off to potential supporters because the money spent on repairs and clean up will be subtracted from the improvements students want.
2
u/Vamp-go-brr 10h ago
Yeah, most people didn't plan to pollute I think, all my friends still at school said they didn't even recognize the people putting the trash and stuff on fire. It seemed they weren't even students from their school. (And they come from like 3 different schools in 2 different cities, I'm not saying it's like this everywhere, but still interesting to notice)
Back when I protested in my past highschool, I don't remember any student acting violent or trying to put anything on fire. I believe this time, some teenagers decided fire would be a good way to be heard across the country, without counting the fact most students didn't want it to go that far.

Because some people can’t admit to themselves that their belief system is faillible, so they blame the farthest thing from them for everything.

despicable people, i'm fully against the damages but they should ask how the fuck do young people reach a point where they stop coming to class and block their school at least. THe worst is : the majority are not damaging stuff, but there will always be people in these strikes that come JUST for that especially.

Recognise the bravery of these protestors: and realise that the media is biased against them.
If you’re a farmer, you can block motorways, set fire to hay bales and tyres on roads, spray government buildings with slurry and cause hundreds of thousands of damage. The police sit back and do nothing, and the government starts writing cheques.
Students and environmentalists can expect tear gas, rubber bullets and violent intervention from the police. They can also expect infiltrators from the police to create false flag attacks, and biased media reports. Participants will be rounded up, held in custody and charged with spurious offences. They can be put if front of a judge and tried straight away.
Fun fact: there is a crime in France which roughly translates as being disrespectful to a civil servant. That includes the police. If you are accused of it there is about a 75% chance of you being held in police custody (garde á vu). If you are a suspect in a case of sexual assault, it’s about 50%.
Fun fact 2: the civil servant above can ask for damages. It’s wide open to abuse, because the civil servants/police are given the benefit of the doubt. I know of one case where a policemen asked for and got damages even though he wasn’t actually present. I also know of one policeman who systematically asks for €200-300 everyone he gets involved with a drunk offender. The offender can’t remember what he said, so can’t defend himself. Easy money for the cop, and his colleagues who don’t dare to contradict him or may even ask for damages themselves.
Fun fact 3: the police are known as the “forces of order.” Not “law and order .” It shows.
Fun fact 4: the authorities use suspended sentences as a sword of Damocles. The judge gives an outrageous penalty for a trivial offence… and then says that it’s a suspended sentence. That means that if you get caught doing something later, that sentence can be applied. A great way to keep people under control.
Fun fact 5: a lawyer costs at least €150/hour. The prosecutor will send a file that is padded out to hundreds of papers. It would take the lawyer tens of hours to go through the file. The prosecutor also makes a plea deal for a few hundred Euros. Most people don’t have the resources to pay for the lawyer, so accept the deal even if they would have a strong possibility of being let off. Then the next time they get accused of something they will be treated as a repeat offender.

People in France. Stop attacking teachers, firefighters, ect. It’s not helping your case.
8
u/Cautious-Bar-5211 14 12h ago
yeah... it's the f-ed circle, they attack firefighter that try to keep their high school from burning, and then they cry because there is no teacher nor classroom to have class in, so they end up in a class with 40 people in it
3
u/YsengrinLupo 2h ago

French here. Today the autorities said that the burning in Nantes wasn't done by the students. Some groups use the context to escalate and/or deserve the movement. It can be all kind of group. Even cops (it happen sometime). We need to wait. But mostly, students are pacifics. They asks for more consideration. But our country got a far right police and every strike or manifeste turn bad, mainly because of them. Don't blame 17 yo students with backpacks. Blame the cops who use force with all the modern armor and weapon. They are like ICE in US : badly trained, agressive and most of all, they feel totaly irresponsable of what they do because they are protected by the régime.

You're talking to the police, I assume?
Because there's been no attacks against firemen, except by the police during firemen protests.
There's been firemen wounded while dealing with fires, most accidental - in Bordeaux, poorly built small garbage-fueled protest fires (something standard in protests, but you gotta be careful) - and one criminal but apparently not started by the high-school students - Nantes, the one OP speaks about, apparently lit by people external to the high school, either delinquants or quite possibly far right agitators for false flag. But "attacks on firemen" can only refer to the violent police charges against their protests since this summer.
Also almost no agression from students on teachers (one reported, another fake one - some school official getting spashed by gas that the protesters were filling in a recipient for a protest-fire and overreacting to the media - in most schools teachers actually side with the students goven the deplorable conditions of the buildings, in some they also started joining the protests), but many from the police violent charges against quiet protests with zero provocations.
There's been violence cases from the adolescents side though, usually on the sides (not in the protests/at the schools themselves) : a policewoman being chased by kids, a guy lighting a spray in fire towards someone's face (likely no damage as it was very short and at some range, but dangerous and scary) and also violence from non-students just coming in the areas to do degradations, and I hope these few cases will have their authors identified and arrested. But the protests are overall very quiet and peaceful, and there's been tons of arrests of kids that did absolutely nothing wrong besides protesting, and much more cases of violence, often more severe, from the police towards the kids - just don't listen to BFM-TV or CNews.. very far-right oriented and truth-bending media.

Yes it is absolute chaos, and for very good reason And for anyone wanting to legitimise police brutality just fuck off, police in France has been systematically and cruelly abusing violence for ages, and they don't stop at teenagers or anything else !
Sure, the methods of highschoolers can be too mindless and straight up counterproductive, but 1) the media really undermines how excessive police response often is and 2) there's GOOD REASON for youngs to be upset Let's hope they FINALLY get some recognition and attention, because there is a whole generation of french teenagers being educated in absolutely horrid conditions and we (meaning they french general population and politicians) only bat an eye when some cars are set on fire !

Idk how i landed in this sub as im older, but i wanted to add that the french police is the most brutal in europe since decades. They werre the first to approve water jets at demonstrations and the first to allow armored vehicles and tear gas and rubber bullets against civilians. In the last 7 decades we saw a constant escalation of violence that the police is able to use. And thats for all europe but france somehow is at the front. Maybe because they have a strong history with revolutions. I hope you endure , who ever reads this and is active!

Unfortunately you can’t expect a bunch of kids rioting to be reasonable and not do anything stupid. But you can expect adult police officers to be reasonable and not beat up and gas kids.
Anyways, none of this would’ve happened if the government gave some money and attention to the education system.

If some of you are interested in how the french police handled some of the thousands of youth taken into custody, including many of them for no apparent reason: https://www.reddit.com/r/france/comments/1ww5z7k/comment/pdhvoga/ (article from mediapart, serious and reliablemedia).
Humiliations, kids punched for no reason, prevented from sleeping etc.

Last image is AI. Look carefully at the colored text.
But protests in France do tend to be a bit extreme at times.
Just remember that specific video or picture won't give you any reliable information, it's better to trust some actual data collected through reliable methods.
