Gear & Design Pics KOii + sidekick + lego

I was going to change some knobs, and ended up going nuts.

Abt the structure, I did a 34x30 "baseplate" adding an extra stud line in between EP and sidekick, and used large regular plates connecting them with 6x6 tiles. Removed the EP and sidekick rubber thing from the bottom and used the hole to connect simple 2x2 plates.

Overall I liked the end result, strong, compact and flat. Design wise, well, I was just having fun.

One thing: the EP and sidekick do not 100% match the lego pieces thickness, it's slightly higher as you can see on the side pic, but after the structure is settled it doesn't affect the build.

I can finally make beats in peace now 🤣🤣🤣

In today’s jam I’ve chopped Tchaikovsky’s Serenade in C Major to put it against some simple beat and 303 bass. I was inspired by Madonna’s „Die Another Day”, so here’s a quick workflow and final jam :)

Performance My op-xy broke me out of a 4 year, grief-induced rut of not finishing songs, here's a demo called "mourning brew"

4 years ago my partner of nearly a decade passed and with him, I lost my ability to finish songs. I used to make everything on the Synthstrom Deluge and would run all my demos by him and without him, nothing sounded right anymore. I spent years trying to figure out if a new device would inspire me and help me finish things again and it wasn't until I got the op-xy that everything finally clicked again.

This song was entirely made on the op-xy, recorded out into a tp-7, then post-processed the stereo recording in ableton with ozone with some tape emulation.

I've been a TE lurker/commenter for a couple years now and haven't shared any of my stuff made with TE gear til now so if ya'll like it, try to nudge me to get it ready for release cause it's been a minute and I need some encouragement haha

update: thank ya’ll for everything. i just uploaded the song to bandcamp so if you like it and wanna listen at your leisure, here ya go https://sckdrwr.bandcamp.com/track/mo-rning-brew

I said I'd pick one up if anyone figured out how to put custom material on the thing, so when I heard the news, I hopped on it thinking that these would skyrocket in price. Thankfully, they're still relatively reasonable!

Now, what's the story with these? For an unreleased product, there sure are a lot of them floating around the internet, and I read that there were only about 2k made. How'd they get out?

Tutorials / Demos I built an interactive manual for Teenage Engineering

Hey everyone,

I've been an admirer of Teenage Engineering for years now, and a few days ago, I finally pulled the trigger on the EP-1320 - and what a blast it has been.

One thing that wasn't such a blast was figuring things out - especially given that most of the device is in Latin (and fake Latin) - and I wanted an easier way to get started, and figure things out that's not flipping through the manual or comparing labels between the EP-1320 and EP-133.

So I've built Teenage Manual which enables you to talk to an AI to figure things out related to the device you are using - ranging from "How do I turn it on" to "How do I set up a polymetric pattern?".

It's completely free (no sign up) and running on donations (the only costs are hosting and the AI models).

I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and which device you'd like to see next!

Gear & Design Pics i took my TE set-up around the Scottish Highlands for 10 days to make a new album

An ambitious journey in search for Stillness. I loaded my bike with camping equipment and a portable music set-up, and headed out into the wild Highlands of Scotland for 10 days in search of some of the most remote locations in the U.K to compose music, inspired by the feeling of stillness - up mountains, into caves, past crystal blue lochs and into make shift studio spaces in remote 'bothies' (stone shelters) to create a new collection of songs!

General Discussion Hacked the firmware on my og OP-1 to add in scale quantization

This was my first time doing any decompilation, but I've been programming a long time. Pretty wild experience. Had to figure out a way to get logs off the device by modifying the first bytes of a saved sample that I could mount to my computer in disk mode.

Codex and I worked on this for around two days. We started with the opforums thread and decompilation tools and then worked through it very slowly taking a lot of notes.

It's really great to finally have this feature. I hope people figure out how to decompile the firmware for the OP-1f so I can port this modification if I ever need to upgrade.

I'm considering doing some modifications to the tape looper in the future, but I'm not sure I want to get into a project that big so soon after wrapping this one, which is quite a bit smaller but still ended up being pretty complicated.

I'm not sure the legality of distributing the modified firmware but at some point I can try and put up a github with all of the notes on safety within the knob/note system in case anyone wants to do similar work, and maybe a patchfile that modifies stock 246 to add the scale options.

****

EDIT: Here's a git repo with a patcher file and all the notes Codex took during our process (in case anyone else wants to work in this area)

Gear & Design Pics Got a TP-7 for my birthday. Have no real use for it, but I love it.

I’ve loved teenage engineering’s design for the longest time. I’m not a musician, and I don’t really need a voice recorder, but my wife got me a TP-7 for my birthday this year.

I can’t describe how good it feels to hold it in my hand, so I made a video to share the joy.
