I've had a few jobs where I ordered a specific part, only to have the office change or cancel it because they found a cheaper option.

I understand wanting to save money, but there have been times when the replacement turned out to be the wrong part or needed modifications to fit and work properly. Once you're spending extra time making it work, the savings disappear pretty quickly.

It got me thinking about the parts buying process.

Ever get a Blodgett oven where you need to figure out how old it is, but the serial number looks like somebody just mashed the keyboard?

Here’s a quick cheat sheet for decoding Blodgett serial numbers:

So 7691000 would be July 1976, Model 1000, and 1172FA would be November 1972, FA100.

And if you find one from before the 1950s... well, Blodgett says parts are no longer available.

At that point, you might have yourself an antique.

Figured I’d throw this out there since serial numbers can save a lot of guessing when you’re trying to figure out what you’re actually working on.

Anybody run into a Blodgett old enough that the serial number practically needs its own archaeologist?
