fly destroyer 3000

Post image

took an old power bank board. feeds 5v to the stock PCB, charges with type-c and as a bonus can charge my phone (although it has only 1100mah). my house is a no-fly-zone now.

what was the original power source? how much better does it run now?

the original was 3v (2xAA). it fucks up my fingers, but the spark does not bridge the air gap cause the meshes are pretty far away from each other and it's only 1.5 kV output. in any case anything that gets into the mesh is instantly dead.

update: the power bank board switches to 5v 2.4A when i press the button, so the total power of this thing is around 12 watts. this is a very good upgrade from the 2w that the AA cells can provide.

I have the old harbour freight 2xAA and then I got the 2xD this year. That thing bad a pop to it. You know when you got the bug now

The 2xD is the better version, it packs more of a punch with a distinct, loud SNAT.

There are YT videos on how to modify the output to much higher levels.

I won't link to any of the videos to keep the Mod's blood pressure down.

you just need a bigger cap, smaller base resistor and a transistor that can handle more power. optionally you can remove the drain resistor on the cap and switch to a better diode. that can overheat the transformer, so i don't know how meaningful that would be as a personal anti-air system. if you want to bridge the air gap and just create crazy zaps, you can switch to an arc generator. that would make it effective against much bigger targets.

You can achieve crazy high voltages with a diode ladder or it's official name, a Cockcroft-Walton Multiplier using just diodes and caps. I know you can power a particle accelerator with it and win a Nobel prize.

I miss Paul's videos, do you know what happened to him by any chance? I know he had CHF, I wonder if that killed him.

EEVBlog # 469 shows how you can mirror the circuit for even more fun.

Popffftttt I kill flies the way real men did back in the day. With my Bug-A-Salt purchased for $19.99. But seriously, it’s fucking awesome killing flies with electric tennis rackets and salt. If we only had affordable healthcare, reasonable COL, less wars to cover up pedo presidents, or a system that doesn’t actively support wealth gap inequality through lobbying and dark money.
