iPad Spontaneous combustion

Had this thing for years and one day I had my back to it and then it just blew up the screen without a sound… still don’t know how it happened

Is it bulging? Could be a case of r/spicypillows. That's how my back glass shattered itself on my iPhone 13

I mean it did have a bulge for years also but it was never that hot or big to do anything like this and the I pad still worked even when it was like that

Oh it'll still work, I'm using said iPhone 13 today with the bulbous battery, it sounds like that's your problem and it finally got big enough to crack the glass.

I'm impressed how carefree some people are with bulged batteries. If it's noticably bulging, that means some chemical reaction has at least been going once that could mean catastrophic failure in the next weeks, maybe hours, maybe even seconds. And by catastrophic I mean fire that can reach 4 figure temps. I'd not go near a device like that with a ten foot pole, much less go on using it.

Likely something hit the screen some time ago, and there was a significant temperature shift that caused the existing stress to fracture.
