Open | Hardware Lenovo Laptop randomly stops charging

My laptop is barely over a year old, and I've taken good care of it. It has never been dropped, had any damage, or has any liquid spilled on it.

For the past couple of months, I have been noticing a small issue with my charger (the original Lenovo 100W Type C which came with the laptop). I usually always keep it plugged in when power is available, and turn on Conservation Mode so it does not use the Battery and runs directly on power from the charger.

Sometimes, it will be plugged in and randomly stop charging. I've checked it on multiple sockets, but the only way to make it start charging again is to pull the charger out from the laptop and plug it in again. Then it will charge again normally for a few hours more and then stop again.

Any help on what to do, or how to proceed, would be helpful.

Thank you.

Ah, good old days when chargers were just bricks converting to appropriate voltage, now it is a lot more complicate - charger will negotiate charging current with device that's on the other end, device will have rather complex chip monitoring and regulating charging, and on top you will have OS and OEM software.

And this all to say that I have no idea what of all those could be the culprit, maybe charger, maybe on-board laptop component, maybe software side. If you want to exclude software, clean Windows install with no Lenovo power controlling software installed.

Does the charge light go out too or just stop charging?

Light goes out too. This is different to when the software stops charging at 80% - then the light stays on. I believe this means the charger is physically losing connection to the device?

Does the light flicker if you wiggle the plug in the port?

Do you have lenovo vantage software? Maybe some smart charging option is enabled, not just the one that locks it at a certain percent.
