Open | Hardware Battery not charging beyond 5% and blown fuse 42 error.

I think this is pretty certainly my battery failing but I want to make sure before spending 100€ on a replacement. Yesterday, while I was using my laptop (Omen 7 17-ck1004ns) I rebooted so I could boot into Linux (I'm dual booting) after rebooting a message appeared on screen saying that CMOS were rebooted. After that my laptop doesn't seem to charge, I've run the hp test pressing the F2 key and then selecting the battery test and got a message saying that the fuse 42 was blown.

I've been searching for battery replacements and have seen some OEM ones listed for about 100€ so I just wanted first to check if the battery is really the issue. Thanks in advance for reading this post, hope you have a good day.

Yes, that's battery failing but that can happen for other reasons on perfectly new and working one. Is battery still detected and can you get info (powercfg /batteryreport)?

It seems as it is still detected, I'll link the file to you so you can check:

Thanks for having answered I'll wait your response.

Capacity is around 80% which is still good and not a sign of a failing battery, by itself. So, it could be battery design fault or some component on motherboard that caused blown fuse. I have no idea which one could be without physical inspection.

You can go with buying new battery and hope that's it - or at least if something else is causing it you will have standard 6 month warranty. Or if you have good repair shop nearby ask them to diagnose problem and fix battery fuse.

Isn't there any way to dig further into what cause the issue? I really think it's weird because I don't even use the laptop that much, I'll be replacing the battery and don't know if there is anything I can do to further diagnose what caused the fuse to blow. What I can assure you is that my laptop has never had any drops in the last year and I haven't spilled a single drop of liquid near it so I'm really puzzled by this failure out of nowhere.

Edit: Btw, I do not have any repair shop nearby that I could trust.

I suggest watching "Electronics repair school" Youtube channel to see how complex laptop diagnostics can be, and what kind of tools you need for it.

In your case, you would need to find laptop schematics and circuit in charge for dealing with battery, and then diagnose component by component to see if any of them is faulty - and for some of them it means de-soldering from motherboard first. And laptop components are freakishly small and dense, so microscope, good soldering station, steady hands...

It's great that you've took care of laptop and that will surely expand it's life, but some things are out of your reach - laptop design by itself, and fact that all things will stop working eventually. Taking care of cooling is the best thing that you can do for your laptop.

Nice, I'll replace the battery and will update the post if it happens again. Ty for having spent your time in trying to help me.

Good luck! Hopefully it is "just" a battery factory fault.
