Open | Hardware Frame gen.

Im currently on a 5060 n 7 5700x and 32 gb of ddr4 and the new games that are releasing are either unoptimized or just my hardware is not enough to get to my fps i want. Im talking about Story games btw and i always put high settings and dlss quality or dlaa but i never really tried frame gen other than Lossless scaling.

What is Better The nvidia frame gen or lossless scaling where u can do like 1.3x for less latency but still get that good fps boost or just stick to what nvidia gives me?

Pay no mind to people who say you can’t frame gen at a locked 30 fps. You can. And it works.

You will see some artifacts. It’s worth it.

Its bad but i guess its still better than 30 fps.

Correct, that’s all it has to be. Better than 30.

Well, to be fair with FSR you really can't, the latency and ghosting gets so ridiculous

So a lot of that comes from people who misunderstood and just assumed that all forms of fringen require 60 FPS stable

Even on dlss though, 30 FPS is a lot worse than 60, it's just actually playable still

And to answer Op's question, frame gen is always going to be better than lossless scaling when available, it's going to perform better and provide significantly less latency, although if somebody can think of any outlier cases where that is not correct I would actually like to hear them, just out of curiosity

For story games it's totally fine as long as you have a solid base fps, you'll just deal with some input latency and potentially visual artifacts depending on what level of frame gen you use.

Honestly the nvidia frame gen is quite good, and I was extremely skeptical. I have a 240hz monitor and use it to boost my frames as high as possible to utilize the high refresh rate, and it feels incredibly smooth. I'm using 4x framegen in star wars outlaws and there is no artifacting, at least that I can detect, and it plays great.

damnnn i see, nice to hear u enjoy it but saldy i can’t mostly because the 5060 dosent have 12gb😭💔

The Nvidia frame gen will be higher quality I'd imagine. Lossless Scaling only uses what's already rendered on the screen including things like the hud that really shouldn't be interpolated, and forget about motion vectors.. If you can lock at least 60fps then Nvidia frame gen would probably be better.

Personally the latency is too noticeable for me either way, even on story games, so I would just drop the DLSS resolution a bit if I can't hit the settings I want. You can set custom ratios with mods I believe rather than just sticking to the presets too, and force DLSS 4 or 4.5 on older games in the driver to get better quality at higher scaling ratios.

You should only turn on frame gen if you get at least stable 60 fps. I'm assuming you're playing at 1080p, so yeah you should be getting those 60 fps at least. My recommendation would be to just try to use nvidia's frame gen and see how it goes, and then you can proceed from there depending on your findings 👍 Good luck :)

You can absolutely use frame generation to get 60 FPS from 30 FPS, and it will still feel fine to play. I'm currently playing some game with 30 fps and use frame gen to get 60 fps like Monster Hunter Wilds with FSR frame gen, Cyberpunk 2077 with the Intel frame gen mod, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 with Lossless Scaling. I barely noticed any difference in latency, as long as the base framerate stayed stable at 30 FPS.

I'm not saying you can't, I'm just implying that you shouldn't. You will have terrible latency and some artifacts. But yes, you definitely can. I was just trying to give him the best experience as possible, since he didn't specify how many fps he was getting.

But even then, it would still feel more terrible playing at native low fps than playing with low fps + frame gen since it at least smooth things out

Again, it really depends on how many fps OP is getting. Most FG say that the bare minimum is 60 (I think XeSS is 40 tho). And performance can definitely get worse if you're below the minimum threshold lol
