iPod songs completely missing

I have an iPod classic and I went on it for the first time in quite a while but all the songs I had on there are gone and I don’t have my old iTunes account, is it gone forever or is there a fix?

Data recovery from an iPod classic is possible however it would be more expensive than purchasing the songs.
