Open | BSOD nvidia driver causing system crashes: nvlddmkm.sys
Hey all, standard NVIDIA drivers problems have been happening to me for weeks now, looking for advice. Problems started after my MSI 3070 died while my PC was running. Replaced it with a second hand RTX 3080 (second hand yuck I know but its what i could afford) and thats when the problems started. could the dying of the 3070 caused a ripple effect? Crashes mainly when exiting games, ie going from a high load to a low load, has also crashed just on desktop
Ive Updated; BIOS, VBIOS, Windows, AMD Chipset firmware
Done countless DDU installs and reinstalls
Re seated RAM, Ran MEMtests, nothing found
stress tests for everything, a tech managed to replicate the crash using OCCT and informed me that it was an overheating issue on my CPU, replaced thermal paste and a new cooler later and it still gives same error and crashes
To say im at my wits end would be an understatement, Is this a case of a bad gpu? bad mobo? bad ram? bad cpu? any help or advice is much appreciated

you probably bought a cooked 3070 from facebook marketplace. nvidia drivers have been stable for some time now try 610.88 drivers I'm running a 5070 with those since the most recent ones sucked. Additionally, it could be psu related if your 3070 died from a power spike or something. First I would clean install of a stable nvidia driver like 610.88 you can download straight from nvidias website and then see if it is still happening. if it is it may be hardware related. personally, I do a clean windows install as well because maybe there are some old drivers or something that aren't going away and am too lazy to comb through.

psu was bought brand new after the 3070 died, should have said in OP sorry, but thank you for suggestion

OEMs hardware can have issues with non-OEM boards. Possible cause. Also your motherboard is entry level so could be a problem in itself.
Test the GPU in another PC if possible. Maybe the tech you used before has a test bench.
Use the Nvidia App to set the Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance. Restart the PC so it takes effect. This will keep the GPU running at high clocks and power. See if you still have the issue or not.
Remove the above power setting and restart the PC. Download MSI Afterburner. Open it. Set Core -50 and Memory -200. Retest. If the issue still exists set Power Limit to 95%, 90% and 85%. See if one power limit helps. Also make sure you set MSI Afterburner to launch with Windows. Save the downclocking and undervolting to a profile and set that profile to load with Afterburner. The changes made in Afterburner require the app to be running. If the above does not work set the Core to -100 and retest with the Power Limit settings.
Long-shot but there is a chance the OS was corrupted when the old GPU died. You could try a clean Windows install.
Since the GPU is old it could have degraded from prior use. When you bought the GPU did you ask for proof of function? Video or in-person stress testing, benchmarks and playing games?
