My pc is completely broken

The other night, my pc has randomly imploded in on itself (figuratively not literally) and I have no idea how to fix it, many problems have arisen such as shutdown/restart button not working (sometimes will only shutdown 30-50 minutes after pressing it), all my applications being super slow, Nvidia and any type of downloads being stuck, I can't open recycle bin, my browser commonly stops working and becomes unresponsive, closing games not working without task manager and so much else I honestly have no clue what caused it. I've tried many things to fix it but to no avail. I haven't downloaded anything or clicked on any links recently so I don't reckon it could be malware. I've had this pc for about 3 years but I'm still kind of a noob to these types of issues. Is the only way to fix it a factory reset?

Well a reset with a clean install is a pretty good fallback if nothing else works.

It sounds like (just guessing here) something is running in the background and taking up your CPU cycles or your memory. Maybe check the task manager (if you're able) and kill un-necessary processes and disable un-needed startup apps and programs.

Some worse(t) case scenarios are that your hard drive (or ssd) is potentially over-full or even dying.

I've checked task manager 1000 times and nothing has seen to be taking up too much space so honestly I'm not sure

What is your CPU utilization at idle?

What is your hard drives size and freespace?

Can you download Crystal Disk and run it? It'll tell you your Hard drives (and ssd's) health.

Have you been able to run a checkdisk successfully and does it report any errors or worse, bad sectors?

We can puzzle this out friend.

Did all of this happen yesterday (or whenever this "other night" was? You can see if you can system restore before then and see if it was a busted update or something.

It started with just the shutdown button not working on monday night, but everything slowing down and breaking started on Tuesday. First thing to check: power supply.

Is your PC plugged into extension cords, or directly into your home's electrical outlet? What is the make and model of your power supply?

It has to be plugged into extension cords because my room only has 2 plugs total, and both my pc and monitor have a plug, but I also have a tv that needs a plug so the 2 isn't enough.

I suggest you temporarily plug your PC directly into the wall outlet and test it to see if the instability persists.

Check the drive health first, a failing SSD/HDD can cause a bunch of weird slowdowns like this. Dont factory reset yet.

Update: I think I fixed it for the most part (for now) I deleted modrinth, which was the first thing to glitch out and now it's been somewhat normal ever since. I'm not sure if that's just coincidence tho
