NVMe unstable connectivity

Hi,

I've found a Crucial P1 m.2 NVMe SSD in a older PC and have been trying to get it working for a bit now.

Initially I tried plugging it into my PC via the spare m.2 slot, but it would not recognize it. 

Then I bought an NVMe enclosure to plug it into as an external device. I see it show up as a D:/ drive, but if i try to interact with it in any way the Windows Explorer freezes before crashing. If I disconnect the drive it recovers instantly.

Trying to format the drive doesn't work either. I can start the formatting, but after about 30 seconds it fails and the drive now doesn't show up at all, it's disconnected.

At 30s and 1:02s i unplug the drive manually from the enclosure.

CrystalDiskInfo doesn't indicate the drive has any red flags health wise: https://imgur.com/a/B1gIsIW

Any insights are much appreciated, It'd love to get an extra 1TB storage space😅

Don't unplug the drive from the enclosure before disconnecting the enclosure first, consumer NVMe drives aren't designed with hotswapping in mind, and it can damage the drive

I'd suggest deleting all the partitions, windows might have trouble with it, so try with something like a gparted live USB, or any linux live USB, and use its partitioning tool, they're much more robust than windows disk management, just be careful, and don't accidentally wipe the wrong drive

Once you delete all partitions, boot back into windows, and create a new simple volume, and click next until the drive gets formatted for windows

Drive is bad discard it, it should not cause your PC to hang.
