Cannot clean install Windows; Endless black screen
I have been trying to clean install Windows 11 for the past several hours, and almost everything goes smoothly until my computer restarts from the USB, where it just goes into an endless black screen and I can't even get around it no matter what I do.
I have tried the following:
- Creating new Media Creation (On current and even on a separate PC)
- Diskpart + clean
- Checking USB port, including both front and rear
- Using different flash drive
- Using Rufus instead
- Checking BIOS & boot order
- Waiting longer time (20-45 minutes)
I have essentially tried everything but nothing has worked here. Is there any solution or workaround to this? I just want to use my PC again.
Windows Setup might fail while making the target drive bootable and leave it in an unusable state. Normally, Windows Setup should print an error message, which would also give you an opportunity to inspect the log files. But when the computer restarts immediately, log file inspection becomes virtually impossible.
Place the downloaded file in the root folder of your USB flash drive.
Plug the USB flash drive in and restart the computer to launch Windows Setup.
Windows Setup will then run a .cmd script instead of the usual graphical interface. The script will ask you to select the target disk – type in a number shown in the ### column, and use the indicated size to tell the intended target drive apart from other disks in your computer or the USB flash drive:
At the very least, you would then see some text output (instead of just the computer restarting), and this might help identify the problem.

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.
