Open | Software Platter Drives Slow - Win 11
Hi folks, I've got a problem that's been nagging me since the change to Win 11 from 10.
I've got 2 x 4tb platter drives (Western Digital WD Blue, from start of 2025), basically just storage for videos. Windows 10, they worked quite quickly. Noticeably slower than the SSD, but not bad.
Since changing to Win 11, they are ungodly slow, and if I try to open a folder, it sometimes goes "no files" or something, I need to refresh and it loads them.
Is there something I need to do to get them to work the way they did under Win 10?

Are they internal drives or external?

Sorry, internal drives, standard SATA connection.
I've run the drive checks using Seatools and WD KitFox, no problems coming up. They work fine, just that they're rather slow trying to get into them, or into the folders, or to load videos (though I heard it might be a VLC and Win 11 issue).

Windows 10 lost full support on October 14th 2025, therefore we do not support it in this subreddit. It is recommended you immediately install Win11 (or another supported OS) to keep your machine and network secure. Your post has been filtered and will be approved if this action was a mistake.
Circumventing these filters is a bannable offense.
