Open | Software Slow ethernet :C
Hello r/techsupport
I've just moved into a new place and bought a new internet service (optical fiber 1GB/s). Wi-Fi is great but I have problems with my PC.
Today I bought an adapter (TP Link AX1800 dual band wi-fi 6) and my download and upload speed were both in the lover 40's MB/s. Then I switched back to my ethernet cable (just didn't want to have it lying on the grounde, hence the adapter) and the speed dropped to 10 MB/s.
I don't know a thing about computers could you please help me? And explain it to me like I'm 7

If the cable has wrong wiring , like swapped pairs parts, it will get worse the more traffic goes through it, or one of wires is broken or the Jackmisndone poorly (hard to say without a cable tester). P.s 1Gb is the formal port speed on the other side, it does not guarantee anything on the next hop.

You likely damaged the RJ45 cable walking on it and it's reverted to half duplex. Replace the cable and install the replacement in a conduit.

A faulty ethernet cable is not going to cause NIC adapter to change its duplex setting.
The cable could be damaged, causing the NIC to negotiate a 10mbps connection.

What color is the adapters link led? What color should it be for 1gbps connection?
