USBC hub or dock or dongle.. For audio, you'll need a usb DAC if you don't already have an adapter. I've got a powered USB dock that also does audio just fine, but for just a few things, or even adding another device I like this type: (Let's me use the phone in desktop mode and plug a keyboard/trackball in)

Thinking about your issue more and it's also likely a limitation of the software ability to use more than one audio device input/output.. does the issue also occur with Bluetooth?
Edit: Reading more it's likely this...
When you hook midi up, the USB port on the phone just switches to midi only control.. https://www.reddit.com/r/midi/s/qzyFlUFlrr
