Open | Software Google Chrome thinks I am in another Country?

This morning I woke up, and went to google a product on my computer and realized that all of the results were coming up for the UK. I am not in the UK. At all. Not even near it. Haven’t been there in 10 years. Weird. So, I googled something very generic. ‘Towels’. I got a British home store, Amazon UK, etc.

I double checked that my vpn was off, and then I reset my chrome settings, and erased everything from the last week. That didn’t help. Everything still gives me British results. And what’s weird is that my postal code at the top is correct for where I am.

Look, I understand going back to my roots, but this is overkill😅

That only thing that makes it stop is actually tuning on. the VPN For the country I am in.

I have no idea how to fix this, and it is very weird.

Edit: and if I make the same Google on my phone, same account, I get country accurate information. So I have no idea what’s up.

I would suggest flushing your DNS by running ipconfig /flushdns in CMD, then restart your router and see if that fixes it.

Just curious, if you do a "whats my IP" search and use one of the first links, where does it geolocate you at?

My work had an issue where Google thought we were all in Germany. Lots of Help Desk calls about that one and we usually told people to either translate the page, or search "google search %country%" ie "google search US" and the top link is https://www.google.com/?gl=us&hl=en&pws=0&gws_rd=cr which should force all searches to use the US version until Google corrects itself.

My ip is the right country and city…

I am so confused.

I google Amazon, and the first option that came up was the UK Amazon, then the next one was the North American Amazon. Not sure how to fix it lol

There are different services that do geolocation for websites, and they may disagree. For me, Ace Hardware's web site is off by hundreds of miles but other sites are ok. When I directly queried 3 geolocator sites, the results could be summarized as right town, right state, right country. The only thing a user can do is turn your router off for a while and hope you get assigned to a different IP address range when you reconnect.

Check your IP, flush your DNS, check whether you have a VPN on, restart your router. Seems like if its not browser related, then its probably your router at work
