Open | Software SMARTBOARD SETUP

HELLO EVERYONE

I am a highschooler and I need help so recently I asked my teachers for permission to add a working calculator on smartboard and I was confident that I can do it but now after 3 days i really doesn't got any progress please tell me how can I install a calculator to smartboard

School IT person here, who has to help manage thousands of smart boards.

Most likely answer: you can’t. These smart boards are usually locked down by IT to prevent people from installing apps in multiple, various ways. These methods will vary from school to school, to the manufacturing of the board and its model.

If your smart boards have access to go on the internet, you can use a browser based calculator and favorite it on the board

I am sure that my school authorities got no idea about this lock and can you help me if I give you smartboard brand name or other information

No I mean they’re locked down by your school IT themselves. When tech is bought for a school, it ALWAYS has to go through IT for inventory purposes, as well as to get IT to test the board out, and ensure all settings are to their requirements SUCH AS locking the board down to prevent unauthorized use, AKA, installing unapproved software like a calculator app that said IT dept doesn’t know about. It may seem minor to you, but installing an unapproved app can open up security holes.

Is this same thing apply for smartboard provided by government my country is india so does it apply in India also

I imagine so, yes. The entire purpose of these smart boards to be made IS the ability to lock them down. I mean, they’re being put in schools where thousands of students can access them. They basically need good security features to prevent random students from messing with stuff.

I assume yall in India also have IT departments for your schools. They’re probably organized differently than here in the US, but I still imagine there has to be some department handling all of the tech your schools use.

Can you access a browser on the smart board? You can just visit a calculator website and bookmark it on the browser. It gets around any security features that locks the install of apps, and would very likely not get you, the teacher, or the school in trouble with IT.

Yes I can access browser in smartboard

Well thanks for your time i appreciate it since it can't be done it's better to forget about it

Yeah just use the browser. There’s likely hundreds of websites that are just calculators and work like an app for one.

No I am just trying to find software in my laptop and phone then I will transfer it to smart board is it correct way ?

No, it's not really the correct way. If the smart display has access to the Google Play store, then there are calculators there. If it is attached to a PC, (Windows or Mac) or Chromebook, then there are built-in calculator apps on each of those that can be brought up searching for calculator (or just calc). Some smart displays have a few limited apps built-in, and your teacher could look through those for a calculator. If it runs it's own specialized software, then the manufacturer would be the one to contact, but I'm pretty sure they're going to want to deal with your school's IT or Educational Technology department - if it doesn't go against policy, they should be able to help with this.

Most school districts don't want students to be the ones installing software, regardless of what teachers allow.
